Registration opened today, September 2, for the Team America Rocketry Challenge 2004 (TARC 2004). It will remain open until November 15, or until we receive 1250 completed applications, whichever comes first. The event website is www.rocketcontest.org. There is additional information on the NAR website, www.nar.org.

This Challenge offers middle school and high school teams (7th through 12th grades) an opportunity to learn aerospace engineering skills by applying model rocket technology to the challenge of lofting 2 eggs to precisely 1250 feet (as measured by an altimeter) in a two-stage model rocket and returning them uncracked. A prize pool of over $50,000 will be split among the top 10 teams nationally.

Please check out the event website, encourage your local schools to enter teams, and give them advice and launch site support when they do. Last year's event registered 874 teams, representing over 9000 high school students from all 50 states. The final flyoff for TARC 2003 was attended by the heads of NASA, the National Air and Space Museum, and Lockheed Martin plus Senator Mike Enzi and Homer Hickam.
