So the local rocket club, Wright Stuff Rocketeers, went and saw Star Trek Beyond last night. It was a pretty good movie, essentially escapist entertainment.
If you see it in 3D make sure you watch the end credits. They do a flight through space that is pretty darn good.
My wife works at the local Air Force base and we decided to give a couple of tickets away. She contacted the supervisor of the admin group that supports her office and asked the sergeant in charge if there were a couple of airmen who deserved a little treat. He came up with a couple of airmen first class and passed the names along to us. We arranged for them to pick up the tickets right before the show since I would have to get the extra pair of tickets from the rocket club right before the movie. Unfortunately, there was a mixup in communications and the airmen went to the wrong theater. I called the theater manager this morning and she arranged for a couple of passes to be issued in lieu of the unused tickets. So hopefully, the airmen will get to see the movie sometime this weekend.
I only bring this up in case anyone else wants to do something similar for some young enlisted folks near them. These people dont make much money and something small like a movie ticket can be a real treat for them. And this wasnt my idea either, we got it from someone my wife works with when he purchased some extra movie tickets a few months ago.
