It doesn't take much acetone to thin epoxy. Add three drops to the mixed epoxy, stir, assess. If you want it thinner, add three more drops, and so on, until you get the viscosity you want.
 
If you are using slow epoxy, you can just raise the temperature and it will be much less viscous. Don't warm it up until you are actually putting it on, or after you put it on. If you warm up a container of it, it might start to smoke.

I seriously doubt nylon is good for reinforcement, except to create a layer of epoxy of a certain thickness.

If you let slow epoxy soak into paper for a few minutes, scrape the paper, then flip over and do the other side, your paper will become quite tough and stiff when the epoxy cures.

I don't know the structural properties of dried wood glue. I doubt they're better than epoxy. Of course it will depend on just WHICH wood glue.
