I did get that - there could be no possibility of a cover-up if there were Americans involved. My point is that the RSA is not beyond trying.

I think if was a similarly preventable event, some people involved would be doing jail time in Russia.

If it was China, they'd shoot them. At least they do for non-murderers, like embezzlers.

That said, I do not think that the Chinese held anyone accountable for the hundreds of villagers killed in the crash of a Long March-3 rocket (hey, they were only villagers. And indeed they tried to cover it all up. I do not think they ever officially acknowledged to the people of China that it crashed into a village). Or if they did hold anyone accountable, they didn't make a public spectacle out of it like their other executions.
