motor hook design issues

I took a picture of one of the old style hooks.

This one is by Quest, though I presume Estes hooks looked the same.

Estes never used that style of motor hook. Estes used the ones with 90 degree bends on each end from the mid 1960s until 1992. The widths of the hooks did vary somewhat over years, however. All of the Estes hooks required more force than the one shown in your photo.
