Most folks have one or more of the tried-and-true holiday movies they watch every year: "White Christmas", "It's a Wonderful Life", "A Christmas Story", "Miracle on 34th St", "A Christmas Carol", yadda yadda yadda.

But, do any of you have any movies on your viewing list that are really unusual, rare, or just plain strange? :cyclops:

Let's hear what eclectic movies are on YOUR annual viewing list!

Mine are:
Bill and Opus in "A Wish For Wings That Work"
"Rocko's Modern Christmas"
Truman Capote's "Christmas Memory"
"A Tuna Christmas"

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Tried watching it with the kids...they had no appreciation for the humor! Sigh. I wonder if their children will rediscover it years from now, and it'll officially become a "White Christmas"-level classic.

For unusual, check out 'Bernard and the Genie', if you can find it! Great British Christmas comedy with Rowan Atkinson, Alan Cumming, Lenny Henry and Bob Geldof.

Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas, Anabelle's Wish, RED, and of course Nightmare before Christmas

Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies --- not because they are Christmassy, but because that is always when they are released.

+1!!! Best Christmas movie ever!! My family all gets together and watches it every year. Unfortunately, my wife doesn't care for it.

Muppet Christmas Carol is a favorite at our house. Not too far off the beaten path, I suppose, but a little ways....

We show it at school each year. They read excerts in lit class, we have a 2 person acting troupe (Hamstead Players) put on a performance, and then we watch the Muppet version. In fact, the DVD is sitting in my classroom waiting for tomorrow. Now for some reason, I was singing Scrooge's intro song for about a week now.... "When a cold wind blows it chills you...."

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
Christmas Story
Richie Rich

All of these are great.

More music buffs than movies here. "Traditional", not so much...

Today I was browsing YouTube, came across a full length version of the 1970's Scrooge movie. I was only looking for 1 particular Scrooge comment for a witty reply I had in mind for an email. At this moment, I am 1/2 way through this movie....AND IT'S A MUSICAL! Totally out of my usual norm here as I almost loathe musicals, but for some reason I'm actually having a good time watching THIS!

Oh golly, I must be melting.......

Oh yeah! A few new years eves ago, we watched the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy (extended edition!) in one day!

Actually, my daughter and I have watched those on our days off each year. I just didnt consider them a holiday tradition. However, like taking the train to Shedd Aquarium, I guess they are a tradition for us. This year we can add Hobbit to the movie fest.

The George C. Scott version is my favorite. He plays Scrooge in a believable way.

For the serious, non-musical versions, I also like his best. He's perfect for the role, but I find no showings in my Comcast search. I usually don't like musicals, but the 1970 Scrooge one I like. It's not like some musicals, the ones I don't like, that are mostly sung dialog to not-at-all-memorable tunes.
