I've been looking at the CMR Helichopper plans in the YORS plan library:

https://www.oldrocketplans.com/cmr/cmrC18/cmrC18.htm

and I'm wondering - has anyone ever built one of these, or tried to clone it? I'm really interested in the latter since the parts are no longer available (custom blow molded nose cone, body tubes in sizes that are no longer made, etc.). I've thought about making the thing with a cardstock hub, balsa or Pratt vacform nose cone and using BT-50 for the main body tube and C-50 coupler stock from BMS for the rotors. Of course, the C-50 is a lot thicker than a regular tube, so I thought I'd peel about half the layers off to make it lighter, then CA and sand the surface to make it smooth.

Has anyone built anything like this? If so, how well do the sectioned body tubes work for rotors?
