BBbbbrrrrrrr

'twas chilly today!

We had a great launch. Very cool but with little wind. Lots of great flights (well, Mike (Comsodrome) may not agree... :D ) and a rather odd collection of lawn darts (or fence posts, as I've come to call them lately :) ) Today we had 10 (possibly 11) in all. More than I normally see in an entire season, let alone a single launch. Heck, we only had ONE cato so this would also be my first launch where the lawn darts out numbered the cato's... go figure...

I didn't fly anything (didn't get'em prepped early and my fingers were numb before too long), but didn't matter... Seemed like about a quarter of the flights (over 200 in all) were a FlisKits kit, so I was feelin' good :)

Tony's Trifid and Up-Scale Trifid (24mm) were simply spectacular! As was Boris' Hell Boy and many others too numerous to list. I hope to have my photo's up this weekend. In the mean time, here's a sneak peek:
  • Tony with both versions of the Trifid
  • The Kruger's doing their best to stay warm... :)
  • One of several Richter Recker's to go up
  • Simply love it! This is the original (18mm) Trifid
  • Not something you normally see at a launch... ...unless you fly with CMASS!

Yeah a lot of lawn darts today, including one of mine.
My Airy, 24 to 18 two stage, the second stage didn't ignite. It had a key chain cam too. I'll post the video when I get it up on YouTube.

BTW Jim who's the funny looking guy holding my Trifids. :D

Ya I accounted for 1 1/2 lawn darts. My Delta E did it's best to re-kit itself when the ejection didn't fire. Second time I've had no ejections in the last 3 launches. Two funny (to other people) things about the Delta E crash: 1) it hit so hard that the decals came off and 2) the upper section was pushed so hard into the lower section that the dog barf was re-compressed into a solid form. Two firsts for me. All in all Delta E didn't come out too bad, new nose cone, one of the transitions, some body tubes, no damage to the bottom. I'll have it fixed up in time for the next launch. My other was a 4 second delay that turned out to be a 0.4 second. This was on the Nike Apache. Broke the shock cord and darted the Apache section. First crash of this rocket in 15 years.

Here's the video of the Airy lawn dart.

It was a cold day, but at least the wind was calmer. Towards the end of the launch the winds shifted toward Lions Mouth Road, and this proved to be a problem because several rockets drifted towards private property.

My first flight was my Flis Mystic which I wanted to fly with one of those long burning Quest C6 motors at the last launch but ran out of time and was to windy. Plenty of time and hardly any wind, I decided to go with it. I must say it was well worth the wait. They mystic shot straight up with a gentle roll and seemed to go up for ever. The ejection charge scorched the shock cord and streamer though.

Second up was my First Flight Under Dawg. Perfect flight with a D12-0 staging to a D12-5.

My third flight was a rocket i have not flown for a while. My ESRA missile had another beautiful flight with dual Estes E9-6 motors.

During the last two launches, I did not launch my Hotel Express. This time I wanted to launch it again. And I had a specific motor in mind for the flight. The new CTI G84 Green3 load for the Pro24 6g motor. Awesome Boost but no ejection :(. The rocket was destroyed. I believe there was not the promised 1g of powder in the motor.

My friend Sean loves to fly my LOC Legacy, so we decided to fly it with a Pro24 F79 Smoky Sam motor. It was a perfect flight.

One of the new CTI loads I really wanted to fly was the H54 White Longburner for the Pro29 3G motor. Perfect flight and I loved the long burn of this motor.

Next up was my LOC EZI-65 which I decided to fly with a Pro29 5G H194 Red Lightning motor. It was a perfect boost but the wind shifted direction and the EZI landed in a tree in someone private property. Sean and I decided after the next flight, we will get the pole and head out and get the rocket.

Sean loves my Stingray, and he loved how well it flew two weeks ago on a three grain motor, so he decided to buy another I175 so I could launch the Stingray again. Perfect straight up flight and perfect landing

Once the Stingray landed, I went to grab the recovery pole and waked to the house where the EZI landed. I knocked on the door, and got permission to recover the rocket. I picked up as much wadding I could and headed back. I did not have time to get the Ladyrobin ready to fly so I decided to finish the day by launching two black powder rockets.

I like the Quest C6 powered Mystic flight so much that I decided to do it again :). Perfect launch but the shock cord burned through. We found the nosecone but the body was lost. So Sean and I went to recover the Hotel Express. When we got back, the Mystics body was found.

Finally we launched my Quest X-15 with an Estes C6-5. There was nose weight in the nose so it should of been stable, but the X-15 did a perfect high speed arc and darted into the ground under power. I think somehow the motor hook interfered with the exhaust, which effected the thrust.

Now its time to finish this post with an awesome picture.
