So, as a previous post mentioned, I'm driving cross country in a couple of weeks. The Steven Wright joke about one album didn't seem to go over very well. So, I thought I'd see what others might suggest. I lean more toward metal/hard rock/punk, or whatever trendy names these genres have this month.

What's definitely on the playlist:headbang::
  • Rammstein (My wife: "Is that German for crap?")
  • Sabaton
  • Judas Priest
  • Steel Panther
  • Dropkick Murphys
  • Dragonforce
  • Some 80's music (nostalgia)
  • Megaherz
  • Yes
  • Linkin Park (older stuff)
  • Disturbed

No coincidence - I've seen the first four bands live within the last several years.

So, what should I add? 32+ hours...

Bonus points if you pick a song that makes one or more of the dogs whine or howl.

Extra bonus points if you make the driver whine or howl!

I suggest music themed for each state you drive through. examples

Ohio - Ohio by Crosby Stills Nash and Young
Oklahoma - Okie from Muskogee - Merle Haggard
Colorado - Rocky Mountain High - John Denver

The new Linkin Park album is REALLY good...more of a return to the style of Hybrid Theory, so you might want to include that one.

Primus - Sailing the Seas of Cheese
Slipknot - All Hope is Gone
Alice in Chains - Facelift
Dream Theater - Images and Words
Five Finger Death Punch - American Capitalist

I have always wanted to listen to every Beatles song they ever released in chronological order. That would mean taking the 12 studio CDs, and creating a playlist that inserts the singles and EPs from the Past Masters CDs where they belong. It's about 10 hours worth of songs; but I have never been behind the wheel for 10 hours. Still on my to do list.

Hmmm ... if I'm driving through Ohio, the last thing I want to be hearing is "Four dead in O - HI - O." :y:

I'd recommend either the CSNY Box set... or at leas the CSN Shadow Captain LP...

Joe Satriani, Steve Via I'd be all up in.
Favorable to Stevie Ray Vaughan, Ted Nugent, AC/DC, Metallica, Ozzy, ZZ Top (later stuff), Motley Crew, and of coarse, The Heart Sisters is a must!
EDIT: Can't forget Molly Hatchet!
Pink Floyd and Peter Framton is a given...

Couple of random thoughts:

Mudvane - Not Falling

Slipknot - Before I Forget

Jackson Browne - Running on Empty (little less metal, more warm and fuzzy)... :)

Justin

The Stooges (Raw Power)
Nine Inch Nails (Head Like a Hole)
Rollins Band (Civilized)
System of a Down (War?, actually anything from their first album would do)

(Song bonus point attempts in parenthesis)

Prodigy's The Fat of the Land needs to be added.

Yes! However, I was listening to this when I got the only speeding ticket of my life. A lot of luck in that statement, but definitely an album that can make the foot heavy.

For some real fun add Nitzer Ebb's Getting Closer. One of the best intros ever. Some hard charging good stuff.

When you're tired of all the metal and want something a little milder try The Avett Brothers. Live #3 is a good introduction. They are kind of a cross between rock, country and blue grass.

and when you tire of that - Kenny Chesney, The Road and the Radio - is right up there.....

3 days of this:

I have every album the Dropkick Murphys put out so that would be high on my list. Also a lot of Flogging Molly, Black 47, and other Celtic rockers.

Can't argue with The Allman Brothers Band either. Extended jams for those long drives.

Ayreon
Dream Theater
Gamma Ray
Star One
Nightwish

And for something different -
Weird Al Yankovic
Kevin Bloody Wilson (warning - R rated)
Dr Demento shows :)

Motorhead 'Ace of Spades'. You will arrive at you destination well before you expected. Don't be surprised to see your speedometer floating between 90 and 100 all the time :D
