I'm working on a tower project, too. It occurred to me that if instead of rectangular beams for the rails, one used "rails" or "mini rails," then those could be used as ordinary rails to launch smaller rockets from the tower without making adjustments to the tower. A way to mix in "fun" rockets with the same launch setup as "serious" rockets.

How much gap do you generally leave between the rocket and the rails? If the diameter of rocket is X, what would be the diameter of the circle formed by the rail contact points?

I normally shoot for enough clearance so that if I shake it by the fin while it's in the tower I can hear a little rattle. Maybe 2 mm or so of clearance.
