The first attempts at launching two massive 800 pound, 1:9 Scale Saturn 1B’s, were filled with scores of Cool and Really Cool moments. The attempts were too cool leave the rockets relegated to being hanger queens. So Steve Eves and Vern Hoag are going to do it again. The second attempt will incorporate all the lessons learned during the first flights that left the ground on April 17, 2011 at the MDRA Field on Higgs Farm in Price, Maryland. With 500 days between launches, ROCKETS Magazine is sponsoring Vern and Steve’s trip to the Heartland of Rocketry and America; Argonia, Kansas for Scalefest at Airfest 18. The launch will held over the Labor Day weekend, 8-31-12 to 9-3-12.
These museum quality projects will stand twenty-four feet tall and will weigh in at over eight hundred pounds. This is your opportunity to be part of rocketry history, once again. ROCKETS Magazine is looking for your support and help in sponsoring the motors and the general effort to facilitate both flights. In order to fly these world-class projects, Steve and Vern need your help.
The motor-sponsorship opportunity for Vern Hoag’s single-stage Saturn 1B is as follows: Vern’s rocket will be launched on four 98-mm motors. All four motors will be the powerful, certified N-5800’s. All of the motors will be produced by Cesaroni Technologies, CTI. The N-5800 propellant retails for $1,150.00. Thanks to the generous discount offered by Anthony Cesaroni and Tim Lehr, you will receive the 20,367 Ns casing and the propellant for the N-5800 for $1,200.00. After the flight, you will keep the motor casing. Qualified Cesaroni representatives will assemble all of the CTI motors for Vern’s flight.
The motor-sponsorship opportunity for Steve Eves’s two-stage Saturn 1B is the following: Steve’s rocket will be launched on a central P-7000 and four N-3800 Loki Research motors. The rocket will stage to a single O-5000. The N-3800s are certified motors. The retail cost for the N-3800 propellant is $600.00 Thanks to a generous discount from Scott Kormeier; the sponsorship cost for the N-3800 propellant will be $400.00. You will need to supply your 98mm 12,500 Ns case for the propellant. Scott Kormeier will oversee the assembly of all the Loki Research motors. The Sponsorship for the O-Motor propellant is $1,200.00.
The sponsorship cost for the central 6-inch-diameter P-7000 motor propellant is $1,800.00. The 50,000 Ns 152 mm Loki Case will be required to fly this motor. As with the N motors, Scott Kormeier will oversee the assembly of the P motor.
All sponsorship opportunity is limited and will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Go to www.rocketsmagazine.com/saturn-1b-projects-2012/Donate.shtml to show your support for these two world-class rocketeers and their projects. This is the second time ROCKETS Magazine is offering this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to say, “Been there, done that, launched the rocket again, and got the T-shirt.”
As with any project of this magnitude there is always a chance failure. All sponsors agree there is risk and they acknowledge the possibility of damage to the sponsorship casings and hardware.
On behalf of Steve Eves and Vern Hoag, ROCKETS Magazine thanks you for your consideration and support in the world class effort.
