Does anyone know if a LOC or PML 3 inch tube coupler will fit the Estes Bid Daddy body tube?

Thanks,

Alan

I just tried fitting a 3 inch LOC coupler into my Big Daddy it didn't work. The coupler was about the same size out diameter as the Big Daddy.

Nope, the LOC 3" BT will not fit the big daddy. I rebuilt my big daddy after a lawnw dawn and actually was able to slide the LOC BT over the Estes BT. The Big Daddy uses a weird BT size. I cannot remember the BT designation of hand though. Good luck.

totally tubular has couplers for that. They also have 34" body tubes for big daddy. I think the couplers are $2 and the bt's are $8. www.totubular.com hope this helps-Travis

Maybe I'm missing something, but the list goes from BT-80 (OD 2.600) to Bt-101 (OD 3.938). The Bid Daddy tube is 3.000 OD.

My bad, I forgot that I had to e-mail the company and ask. the item # for the 34" bt is T3.0. I don't know the # for the coupler, but a quick e-mail to the owner would surely remedy that., he seemed very friendly. Hope that helps. Travis

I've been wondering the same thing! I noticed the post office and I think Staples sell 3" mailing tubes. I wonder if they are the same size as the new 2006 Big Daddy. Still would need to find or make a coupler though.

Also, those mailing tubes would make for a nice & big scratch build.

I just built a modified Big Daddy with a 38mm motor mount to fly on Cesaroni H143's. To beef up the body tube a little, and create a lip for the nose cone shoulder to rest on, I used a LOC coupler and cut a lengthwise section out of it so it would fit inside the Estes tube. Worked pretty slick. At the risk of stating the obvious, you could fiberglass the inside of the coupler if you were worried about strength.:) I'll try to attach a photo.

I'm just looking to add a small payload bay (to hold altimeter) and upgrade to 29mm motors. I ordered an extra body tube from Estes. Totally Tublar carries the couples, both 6 inch and 34 inch length. They also carry the centering rings needed to hold the 29 mm MMT. I had to e-mail Jim at TT about the parts. They are not listed on his site.

Once all the parts arrive, I'll start putting it together.

A 34 inch tube would make for a really BIG Daddy! I haven't strated building mine yet. I notice the tube is very strong compared to all of my other Estes rockets.

It would - I have a 34" length and the plan, when I get arround to it, is a clustered, staged Big Daddy - A Big, Big Daddy.

The tube is somewhere between Estes and LOC for thickness, very nice strong tube without too much weight.

I made my "Long Daddy" form the tube that the legs for the mantis launch pad came in.

I fly it mainly on H128 motors.

I should have added that "Long Daddy" has a 29mm MMT with plywood centering rings & plywood fins

Way too cool.

I almost have my Sormcaster video rocket done...taking my time, only working on it about once per week. Normally I'd say we have 6 months till summer anyhow, but this winter has been easy! (Syracuse, NY routinely gets 100-150" of snow).
