This rocket is done. All I have left to do is take it out on a full moon night and repeat the oath. I will have to wait to "Stuff the biggest motor in it" because the L935 would bust our waiver here. Maybe the K300 to 10,033ft., but that would be pretty close too.
Today I put the "Stickershock" holographic decals on Blackstar:

Tried to get the lighting right for the effect:

Added a coat of future but not sure I like it, might clean it off and spray clear.
This has been one of my longest builds, taking two months to finish. Just checked and there have been over 900 views, hope you found something here to help with your next project!

AWESOME Wayne!

Took the "Blackstar" to Airfest and flew it for the first time on a CTI K454 Skidmark:

High altitiude flights were on hold Sunday, but Thrustcurve estimated the flight to 5400 ft. Kloudbusters don't really bust clouds, but they thought the ceiling was at 5500 and let me fly. No clouds were busted with this flight to 5800 ft. Redundant altimeters saved it from a hard landing, the second ejection charge got the main out at 500 ft. I'm upping the charges to 2 grams for it's next flight.

Second flight of the Blackstar went off at GHS last weekend. Flew on an AT K456 Dark Matter to 5088 ft.
Sharon got a good shot of it as it came off the rail:

Christina got the video:

Recovery was a breeze out on the dry lake bed, you could see the rocket a mile away, and we used my Jeep "Hyjak" to chase it down:

You can see the launch site in the background of that last shot, over a half mile away.

Now that was cool. I envy your backgrounds.... all my shots are of corn and cows. ><

Thanks for the update Wayco! Also agree very good shot of the Dark Matter motor.

Two shots with a K, time for a new Letter...otherwise you better buy a hood !

Wish I could have seen it in person, from the video seemed to be really quick off the pad . Did Sharon and Mark fly theirs ?

Kenny

Mark was not able to get off work.

I gave my RRC3 to Wayne so he could fly his Rapiditty Rocket and didn't have time to get in another one to finish my Blackstar avbay in time. But I'm taking it back for Rocstock and will fly it planned for Sunday am.

Wanna drag race?????

Hey, that looks a lot like our second flight, at LDRS in July. Here's ours on a CTI K454 Skidmark:

Darkstar3 LDRS 3.jpg

Mark at Stickershock hooked us up pretty well too...we don't have good glamor (aka porn) shots of the rockets before they got all dirty, but my boys showed off our new builds before the launching started on Friday:

Sumo and DS3.jpg

We weren't as lucky with that Sumo as we were with the DS3. The motor cato'd and all we came home with was the nose cone. I suppose that we chose an unfortunate name for that one. :y:

By the way...did I just hijack a otherwise perfectly excellent thread? If so, my sincerest apologies. I just could not resist, seeing the similarity between the two launch shots.

You better get right on it buddy, I've got an L935 that is making me itch....

Eargesplittin Loudenboomer? Yeah, you were asking the rocket gods for an event there....

Latest flight on the Blackstar was at RocStock 38 on an L935 Imax. Here I am loading it, biggest motor you can stuff up the pipe:

And the cradle will rock !

Official Wildman status for flying the biggest motor that will fit in that Black Star !

Wayco, loved finding this thread...Lauren and I just started building HER Blackstar. You would not happen to have a Rocksim file for this rocket??

I'm resurrecting this thread to update what my Blackstar has been doing the past eight years. This has been a real workhorse of a rocket in my fleet, so I'm documenting all the flights I've made since it's first flight at Airfest back in 2013:

3-11-21 L1645 NYWR 54/2550 11,5322 ft. TRA/PHX Eagle Eye, AZ.

I figured after 32 High Powered flights I would make a few upgrades, so today I replaced the tubular nylon drogue shock cord with some 1/4 inch kevlar and a new 60 inch Top Flight streamer. I also replaced the aft terminal block on the avbay.
Other than the K750 burn through on 9-4-15, this rocket has performed perfectly, and the avbay, payload tube and nosecone are original.
