I have rockets in the fleet I can't wait to try the D's with and rockets in the build pile that should fly very nicely on a composite D.
 
Saw the news on BuyRocketMotors' facebook page too.
I wonder what kind of D's they'll be.

Rstaff, have you not used the D10 or D21?
I have used the d21 and the d13/24 in the rms case. I am hoping these are a tad cheaper than the old su and easier to deal with than the rms. I would like a d12 or so.

When comparing the Estes motors, PLEASE look at the actual average thrust level as tested by NAR and listed on the S&T website. The average thrust is actually lower than the number in the motor name, as that number is a holdover from the original versions in the 1960's/1970's. For instance, the Estes A8 is *NOT* an "8".

The new Aerotech motors will need to meet the new requirements which do not allow gross differences between certified/tested average thrust and the number on the motor. Therefore the AT A3 and B4 sound very interesting and I would love to see the thrust time curve.

Why would anyone want 18mm A-C composites? What is the advantage? They are STILL 18mm.
I would 'get it' if they were 13mm. But why would I care about A-C 18mm?
Its not taking advantage of greater composite specific impulse.
So is this just 'ooooh shiny new?'
 
We will know how much we care once we have real data:

Price
Thrust/time curve
Black smoke?

Quest sold a lot of kits and bulk packs of motors to schools and youth groups.

If the price is right and they are easy to use and provide "Wow" factor, then they will sell a lot.

The Quest product line needs motors.

It is now too expensive/difficult to import BP motors from China or Germany.

AeroTech knows how to make composite propellant motors.
They have to be 18mm diameter to work in Quest kits.
These motors will also work in brand 'E' and other companies' 18mm motor mount rockets.

Performance is not the issue. Compatibility is.

I guess you never heard about competition rocketry
 
Ever hear about specific impulse?
Everybody who asks questions has never heard of contest flying or ISP. Got it.

Excited to put these right next to my composite 18mm D's, even though I clearly don't understand where the fire comes from.
