TRF was just blocked by my IT department's Websense filter. So much for using this at work :/

Got a smart phone? Just as good, it's how I get my TRF at work.

Do you know someone in IT? Can you have a discreet conversation with them to discuss adjusting the filter? That is, if you call them out on it, you probably won't get far. But if you take someone to lunch or happy hour, they might do you a favor.

The IT dept at Sega had a sign in the door window: "HMS Amistad".

Not a chance. I guarantee out of the 3000 people at my company, I am the only one using this forum. If they just added it to the filter today, it's because I personally have used it so much it topped one of their lists they generate on most visited sites.

Probably not best to be hitting the "lists" at work for personal usage....
(I am going to try taking my own advice one day..) its a good metric to be shown the door in the event budges slim up. Might also affect how much money you make and are offered.

websense filters are wierd... they may not have deliberately blocked this site... may have been a "setting" or a default that was reverted. it happens at my job on and off... one day it will be blocked, with yahoo and msn... the next day everything is normal... and some days its off entirely... like FB is always blocked but the last two its been available.

wait gota do some more work...

I RDP to my home computer and access it that way. We have no such blocking at work, I just prefer to keep my personal stuff off my work computer.

Without TRF I might actually be bored enough to do work at work.

see, i am the other way around... i would rather not use my home computer for not much more than email.

I got my kids android tablets... i am starting to like them.... may have to get one.

Many companies track employees internet use, but they rarely actually look at it. It's usually when someone has a beef that it is checked. Someone had been looking at porn on my computer at work at night, but since they used their password to log on, it was pretty easy to figure out who it was.

If I get hit with a virus, I'd rather not have it be on my work computer from searching craigslist or whatever I am doing.

I told my boss that I didn't want people behind me to see my screen. I'd rather my co-workers not know what my porn preferences are.

I miss the early 90s, when simply using a search result would go around the then primitive blocks.

Many companies filter web access by category, and if TRF is in a blocked category, then it will be blocked.

Being a web developer, my ability to do my job is impaired, if I don't have fairly unfettered Internet access...

You think that's bad?! My dad blocked TRF at home on both laptops...

I don't feel bad about accessing TRF at work in the hospital. There are times when I have not time for TRF. Sometimes, especially on an overnight shift, I am just waiting for something to happen and am bored out of my skull. TRF helps at times like that. During the day, I can make rounds when there is no pending emergency. At night, people get hacked when the chaplain wakes them up to check how they're doing.

I work at Pratt & Whitney and EVERYTHING is blocked...except this site...I'm sure it won't be too much longer though if they've been tracking me ;-) ...good luck!

Hmmm... Without talking to your dad, I can bet it has to do with a certain son of his becoming a bit obsessed.... :)

Learn moderation, and don't make "rocket" every 3rd word in every conversation he has with you, and I bet he might consider relaxing the access a bit.

Try some things.

Some times if you type in the websites ip adress in substitution for the name.com it will get around it .

With other forums like phun.org it worked better if you already had a sub section picked out , once your in you can click around pretty well.
