CTI 54mm hardware versus 29mm?

The 29mm has two pieces: the case and the rear closure. I was just look around and it almost seems there is more stuff to buy than just a case and a rear closure for the 54mm. Is this true?

Nope! Case and closure for 54. The only thing different is if you want to change the delay - that requires a different DAT tool.

Hmmm.

I am looking at a site that also lists...

PRO 54 REAR CLOSURE
PRO 54 THREADED CLOSURE
AMW54 NOZZLE HOLDER
AMW54 SPACER WASHER

:confused2:

There are tailcone closures available for both 54 and 29, too.

Also, if you want to space down an XL case, you need an XL spacer for 54mm motors; in 29mm the 6XL is only one regular grain length longer.

+1 on what Jimcatz said. I don't know about 29 mm, but I have the CTI 38 mm starter set and the 54 mm starter set. These deals are hard to beat. The starter sets allow you to burn 1 - 6 grains with only two different cases (3 and 6 grain). You also get the spacers and ProDat tool. The starter sets are awesome. They have everything that you need. I have also added the 6XL cases for both 38 and 54 mm. You can't go wrong with the CTI starter sets. The CTI is easy to load, and reload after using. I run multiple flights on a case in one day.

Jason, this is incorrect. The AMW parts is so one could use the AMW/ProX(diffeent from standard CTI reloads) in the classic AMW snap ring hardware.

Man I stand corrected. My apologies. I knew it was for cross AMW/CTI something. Thanks for the clarification.

Chris, I agree with everything you said, but in the 54mm line, you just cant beat the prices of the ProX reloads. Granted selection is much more limited, but the only CTI propellant I use is Skidmark anyway.

I am going for my L2 one of these days and CTI stills offer a free case with a paid reload. So I just need an aft closure and I will probably buy a 3 grain reload to keep it a J instead of a 6 grain K. I think I'll do my new Wildman Gizmo (no electronics)... a K might spell trouble (a LONG walk or disappearance altogether).

Anyone have an aft closure and drill they want to part with for cheap? :surprised:

I am with you on that Jim. I have been checking into AMW ProX reloads. Until I asked Jack from What's Up Hobbies to check into them, he thought these were not certified in California. He is a major vendor in California. I agree with the reload prices of the AMW/ProX. I just have to buy a motor, and do a test ordering and launch. I then hope to get CTI and AMW/ProX. In theory, one could get three AMW/ProX 54 mm loads for two CTI loads.

Chris

The AMW/ProX loads come packaged just like the CTI loads, only other piece of hardware you need is a nozzle carrier. The ProX uses disposable nozzles included in the reload. For instance, a K1075 retails for 120$ That load fits the 54/2550 (6 grain) case. The K815(6GXL) retails for 175.99. Almost the same total impulse. Other propellants vary some but the prices speak for themselves. And I already had all the 54mm snap ring hardware.

The only problem with the AMW/ProX loads is people don't even know about them. They are only available now in the 54/1440,1750 and 2550 and the 75/6000 and 7600. Ken at Performance Hobbies sells them, carries them with him to launches but still hasn't got them listed on his web store.

You are right about people not knowing about them. Jack sells them (special order) but did not think they were cert. in CA. He has his own launches at TCC and vends at a lot of other events. So that is a pretty big statement about how many people are aware of it here. I did not want to test this for my upcoming launch at Jack's TCC. Now that he says that it is okay, I will do it. Once I get the hardware, it's no big deal. Just that my wish list is getting bigger... I usually get my AP from Jack. But Wildman sells reloads, and you can get them from the AMW/ProX site. You can buy hardware from the AMW/ProX site. Last year AMW/ProX web site had a pretty good sale on hardware in Nov.

Chris

Wildman has stopped selling any and all snap ring loads and hardware except by special order. At least as of last year. He may have changed his mind.

Even the AMW/ProX site has taken their motors off of the site. All of this complicates the issue. I start to wonder if this will be around long.

Don't forget that Aerotech sells motors for some AMW cases as well. They are called Kosdon By Aerotech Animal Compatible.

They are still available on the AMW site. You have to look in Motors/Cesaroni/Animal compatable.
