In April I will be in NH for a week. If I can get the rockets in by April, I can get MA done if there is a CMASS launch the same week I am down there, if not I can do NH and then Jim Flis can do MA?

According to "the list" you and Jim are supposed to be the last two flyers in the last two states. You in MA and Jim in NH, but if the two of you want to switch, its okay with me, hey, you two started the whole thing in the first place.

Otherwise, do you want to get "the last two" states done before the rest of the remaining list or wait for them to be done first?

You and Jim need to sort that part out between the two of you, but I would think that waiting until the end would be meaningful.

Well, it was actually started by Eugene and Jason, with my help and blessings :)

Yeah, we're still going to leave NH as last and MA as 2nd to last.

We're leaving early thursday to go to red glare. Should be there to help set up the field. After that, Ive found a nice park to fly the rockets in - a quadruple soccer field. If Jim's there I can give him the rockets on Friday, the first day of red glare. Now I just need to figure out a little memento...

Awesome! Just a few more to go...

Delaware
Idaho
Louisiana
Massachusetts 2nd to last state - Doug Gardei
New Hampshire Last state - Jim Flis
Oklahoma
West Virginia
Wyoming

Scratch Delaware! 7 left to go.

It was a warm & windy day at the park, so we edged over so to maximize our recovery area. The chutes were reefed until it looked silly. I then pulled out the secret weapon --

B6-2's!

They flew great, got them both back without climbing a tree...
Duces coming back at you, to arrive Monday!
Pictures later.

Here's the short list:

Idaho
Louisiana
Massachusetts 2nd to last state - Doug Gardei
New Hampshire Last state - Jim Flis
Oklahoma
West Virginia
Wyoming

Who's next?

Can someone from WVSOAR get WV done? (And yes, I know WVSOAR's field is in Ohio...)

Phew, dust off the keyboard...glad to see my TRF handle and login still works. :) Lurking pays off from time to time. So this project is nearing completion? Who is the current torch bearer and can I help with managing the last bits of this project?

Jason is an amateur brew master these days. He traded rocketry for beer crafting. :) Me, well...I got married and have a 7 year old stepdaughter that is all the fun I can handle at the moment. :) Life is good.

Hey Eugene, Congrats!! Good to hear from you again..... Can you believe it, only 7 states to go. Does your stepdaughter like rocketry?.....

Hi Eugene! Great to hear from you again.

I don't know that there is a "torchbearer" exactly, but I have been giving this thing a shove now and then. If I read an earlier message correctly and the rockets are coming back to me, it will be the third time I've had them in the last couple years.

The best thing you (or anyone) could do to help is to find willing (and reliable) folks who can help to complete the last few states.

She is afraid of loud noises. I guess early in her childhood she was forced to sit through some fireworks that she didn't like and it's the only association she's had. I took her out to the local TRA launch once and made sure she had some ear muffs. She had a great time! We haven't built anything together yet, which I think will be the next step, but otherwise I think she enjoyed herself. TRA_0383e.jpg

Hmm...the challenge, of course, is that I've been away for so long that I can't say I know the names on the forum to discern reliable from internet forum poster. TRF appears to have gone through some revisions and I feel like I haven't been an active participant in the hobby in many years. Perhaps reaching out to the local chapter presidents directly (via TRA/NRA club listings) might be the best way of going about it since they're probably not all on this forum.

Anyhow, glad to see the finish line is in the sights and to see some familiar names from the TRF days of old!

Thank you for actually BEING the torch bearer :). My schedule has just bee too hectic to take this on.

Welcome back Eugene :). Hope to see you getting back into the fold.

Jim

Here's the pictures I promised. My son did a great job of connecting the igniters to make it work.

Merrimack, Weare, Henniker, Mt. Washington, Londonderry maybe?

I'm askin' 'cause I wanna be there.

Please don't get too excited. We are nearing the end but during this tour there have been launches with a year between flights. Planning for the last ones should probably be tabled until the third to last flight has been completed...

I'm inline for the Idaho shot. Soon as I can after it gets here I'll launch it, providing I have the right motors. It would be nice to send it on to the next flyer and not back to John, more efficent :)

Sorry, about that. Things got busy and then I forgot about it for a few days... anyway, I hope that you have it by now. Let us know how it goes...

Post Office must have sent it Conestoga Wagon...

Yes, it finally got here :) ..slightly the worse for wear. Peartree told me they had been repaired many times. Doesn't really look like it, someone along the line has mad repair skills. The yellow nosecone needs a nose job and the blue nosed one needs fin repairs, looks mouse chewed or something. I happen to have blue and yellow Krylon so I'm sure I can blend in the repair. Tatter tube ends to get the CA toughening treatment.

I managed to gather what info I needed pertaining to engine size but the idea of sending these up on B6-2's scares me. To quote the author; " You're a braver man than I, Gunga Din."

There's a "D" sized booster stage with no upper, what's the story on that? Said something about it being lost somewhere. Would it be OK if I built a scratch upper to send with it? SEMROC BNC50 G4, 18" of SEMROC BT50, 12" purple Hartle Engineering 'chute, 1/16" bass wood fins matching the Delta-shape of the booster fins. As the booster is nekked I'll paint both with clear Krylon so the message written on the booster is preserved.

I haven't opened the box the last couple times I've had it, but I sure didn't see a D-sized anything the last time I had it open, so while I'm not sure where it came from, it has to be fairly recent...

I probably wouldn't fly it on B-motors unless I absolutely had to fly it on a tiny field. C's have a nice short hop.

I did C6-3 in Rhode Island but the B6-2 worked great in Deleware. I flew off a baseball field (literally). They never left the infield despite pretty strong winds. I'm sure you noticed how heavy they are after all the re-builds. Whatever you pick, keep the delay shorter then you think correct!

Thanks for the answers, guys. My supply of C6-3's are getting quite old, newest is 10 or more years old, 2 fresh packs are in order.

Another thing, the souvenir box is getting hashed, the latch clip has snapped in the middle and I have to report the Califorina clam shell got a small piece of it broken off :( I, on my own volution, will be transfering the contents into a small Harbor Freight aluminum case for more space and better protection of the contents. There's a small plastic box that has the broken-up remains of an...insect...I believe. Not doing anything to that ;)

There's one thing I would really like and that's to send it to the next guy, over $23 shipping back to John just isn't right. He get's stuck with a shipping bill when he should take the money and do something with the wife or buy rocket parts or whatever.

I mean, what's up with them Okies? We got a bunch here and no one want's to fly this? I jumped on the opportunity when I saw it was open. To actually be a small part of History :D
