Nice shirt. I like the yearly Nike Smoke drag race theme.

Might need to order one. A Nike Smoke, that it is.

Any idea on the field conditions we're likely to experience next weekend? My bum knee is still healing and doesn't much care for hiking over furrows and disked fields.

I know what you mean... I was there last in January for a launch... the field was in great condition... smooth and flat... Jack replied today that field still in same condition.

Here is a photo of field in January 2013

Here is shot from 2012 launch..... your mortal enemy... furrows.

I hear there's food onsite. Can anyone elaborate? I plan to camp out for the night launch and am figuring out what I need to bring.

Ari.

The January photo looks VERY nice. The 2012 photo not so much.

Might have to give this launch some thought.

Thanks, David.

I understand that Boy Scout Troop will be there selling food, they've done lunch and breakfast in the past. I not sure if they'll be there just Sat and Sunday.

I too camp out - tenting and bring only a cooler with drinks and some snacks.

I rely on onsite vendor for breakfast or lunch...for dinner... I drive to Harris Ranch (great food but $$$) about 20 mileswest to I5 and those exit has lots of fast food or Southeast back to Fresno about 30 miles, everything a person could want or Kerman about 20 east miles (fast food, pizza, markets). There are several local crossroad markets you'll see on the drive in selling food/ice/drinks, they close early.

Kit, these are from last month. The field is smooth. Come out and play with us!

You guys are making me want to go, but I won't be able to. Now if it was the weekend after... Maybe I'll shoot for October Skies, as long as they'll be launching on the smooth field. The last time I went the field was awful.

My son Ben, my father John and I will be there! Oldest son Brendyn is in New York and Washington DC for his 8th grade grad trip. Looking forward to seeing you all!

Ditto for me. Just dropped a big chunk of rocket cash from savings to get the A/C in the Taurus repaired but the transmission is still a bit of a problem so I'm going to have to pass this go around.

October Skies sounds good, tho. Maybe I'll have my Wildman Black Star ready to rumble by then.

Did you ever replace the transaxle position sensor in the Taurus?

Based on my diagnosis (google, taurus user groups, and such) the problem is most likely (90 percent certainty) an actuator piston that has a bonded seal that tends to delaminate. The symptoms are always the same: The shift between first and second gear is usually delayed and when it does take effect, it's a hard shift. No slippage involved. Once it gets into high gear, no problems. As can be imagined, stop and go traffic isn't a lot of fun but freeway driving is uneventful.

I need to find a reputable transmission shop and not a chain like AAMCO ("All Automatics Must Come Out"). A good transmission shop can repair the issue as the issue and the repair are well known. My regular AAA auto repair shop only does transmission replacements.

Check Porter Sprague in downtown Sac. .... I know the owner (Ed, tell him I sent you) and I believe he works on transmissions.
