I plan to be there. I have an order for some components for my next bit of insanity which I will send you later. Ka-ching!

I will fly my Night Whisper for the first time. Not the best finish but it is painted and has decals. One step above your prototypes!

Work is really starting to interfere with my fun time. I'm typing this from my hotel room in Dallas. I'll be just finishing up my trip back and won't be able to make it. If Kenn does launch something, make sure to take a picture!

So, I am hearing the weather people talking about a heightened fire hazard. Anything we need to watch for as far as Sunday goes?

Where is the sudbury launch site? Are there any restrictions?

Your website only talks about the turf farm site.

Thanks!

edit:
nevermind. I'm an idjit! :)

Yes and no. We haven't been required to call the fired department for the Sudbury or Acton launches. However, we need to use a little common sense. We need to make an effort to keep everything on the field. In the unlikely event that it looks like we might start a fire we will stop the launch.

Directions To Davis Field In Sudbury
"You can find the field on a map (e.g., Switchboard or Google) by searching for: "200 North Rd, Sudbury, MA".

Not sure about what you can fly.

This is a small field. As ClusterNut says "Think small". Low power only up to E impulse if you know your rocket well. For a first timer, I'd recommend lower than that. The may be some F and G flights but they will be saucers or have very good tracking gear onboard.

Derek, are you sure you went to the CMASS website and not the MMMSClub site?

I might fly ONE rocket, and it will be probably be an HPR one. Do I still need to be a member to fly even though it is only for 1 rocket and 1 launch, or can i just have someone else sign their name on the card for me?

doh! I had clicked on the black box raffle link above, which is why I couldn't find directions to the site. my bad!

this wasn't for me but for a friend in the area who I thought might like it. I used to work right next to there but have since moved to escape the cold.

have fun!

I'm not an official from CMASS, but as a participant here is my unofficial response:

While you may be flying only one rocket today paying the fee helps pay for the equipment you are using and ensuring there will be a club and fields for you to fly in the future. The fee is $5. If you can't afford the fee, then you should take a break from HPR. Don't be that guy.

Even more, if you read the above posts, the practical limit for the field is an E, with maybe a small F or G in a low and slow rocket, which means if you are planning to fly high power, you should wait until an Amesbury launch.

The Sudbury field is not HPR capable. There is no waiver (or whatever they're calling it these days). Class 1 rockets only.

They call it an authorization now.

Just to confuse things a little, there are high power rockets you can fly without an FAA Authorization but the safety code requirement of being 1500' from a occupied building rules that out in Sudbury and Acton. This also rules out G hybrids and sparky motors.

1. I am DEFINITELY able to afford HPR, but I was made aware that I had to be a club member to fly at all. The launch fee is twice at CATO, and I regularly pay.
2. Fine. No hpr. Just makes the lunch that much less fun.

Mason, you're laboring under some misinformation. You are not required to be a member of CMASS to fly with us. Low-power thru High-power we let anyone fly with us. All we ask is when we're at a field that will support HPR, you have your card (Junior Level 1 through NAR, right?) to verify your status and follow all the rules involved with that. We still charge the $5 launch fee whether you put up one rocket or a hundred rockets that day; we've got rent to pay to the towns for the parks and fields we fly in. If you're going to fly with us four or more times in the calendar year, the $20 season pass would be the way to go.

As far as not having as much fun with LPR, that's up to you; you can have as much fun as you're willing to let yourself have.

Hope to see you Sunday. You will be bringing your "Shoot for the Cure" rocket along to display, right? I'm sure you'll get some interest in donating to the cause.

I was under the impression that to fly with the club, I had to be a member, meaning I have to pay membership fees AND launch fees. I do not plan on going to too many launches because of the drive, so I thought that becoming a member for one launch and one flight was ridiculous.

I will most definitely be bringing SFTC with me to raise awareness and promote donations.

Make sure I get I picture of it on Sunday and give me a little background and I'll put something up on the CMASS website.

For those of you coming from the west via Route 117, the town of Stow is holding its annual 5K "Run for the Woods" on Sunday morning. They'll be stopping traffic on 117 to allow the runners to pass. The main race starts at 10:00, but there's a kids' race at 9:00. Plus, there will be plenty of traffic and pedestrians slowing things down. If you were planning to come that way, you may want to look for an alternate route.
