Man whatever you decide, and you know Mark is QUICK, it looks AWESOME!!!

So when do ya fly??

Great job! I like the accents you added at the bottom of the body tube too.
I was gonna suggest you fly it on a "G" motor first, but looking at the thrustcurve data for my DS Jr., no way would I fly anything that only goes up 300 ft. !

July? You've FAR more patience than me. I'd be at the very next launch.

Later!

Love the post, that is ONE GOOD LOOKING ROCKET!

Love the purple!

Really Nice Finish GJ! Well documented build thread too!
When are you flying it?

Alex

Unless there is a local launch I can go to sooner, it will be LDRS in July. I don't really have a local club here.

I see what the problem is. It's the stuff behind the rocket is distracting and doesn't match the rocket. Perhaps if you get rid of it, she will appreciate the rocket more

Yeah, that's a long drive. If I was going to one I guess I'd look into the Snow Ranch one. That is about 3 hours from me where Jean Lake in Vegas would be about 8.

Hey Bill, is this the site for info on the Snow Ranch launch?

https://www.lunar.org/events.shtml

That's old, they haven't launched at Robertson Park for some time now. The Snow Ranch launches are the first Saturday of the month from November through May, fire danger permitting. They have mid power launches at Moffett/NASA Ames the third Saturday of the month, pretty much year around.

Ok...time to resurrect this thread and talk about what motor to certify on.

I'm gonna keep it simple and not involve dual deploy for the L1 cert and just do motor eject I think. So I need input on these two questions:

1) Do I fly the Wildman Jr in short mode, or the whole thing and just have the main chute in the lower section?

2) What 38mm CTI motor should I get?

1. It's entirely up to you. I'd just fly the whole thing.

2. Depends on wether you want it to go high or not. The H100 IMAX is a surprisingly cool motor in my opinion, but it looks like you have 9 choices, thanks to your spreadsheets :)

Not sure what you mean by this. Correct me if I'm wrong, but L1 is total impulse between 160 and 640 NS. So if you filter the 38mm engines in CTI for that, it gives you 29 motors.

How much did your Jr. end up weighing? Mine ended up at 74.4 oz. Thrustcurve estimates the smallest H for mine would be the H143 Smoky Sam to 1229 ft.
I have one flight on mine, but it was an AT I161 that went to 1995 ft. That's about as low as I would go with it DD.
You should fly it the way you like, not rely on our suggestions. Plug your data into Thrustcurve.com and pick out a motor that does what you want for your L-1 flight. Logic would suggest that "short" mode would be simpler, and therefore better for a cert. flight, but I would never fly mine like that, it's not what I built it for. I built it to learn dual deploy.
If you ignore my advise, and take my suggestion, fly it on a I180 Skidmark and make a statement!

Well of course I'm going to make the final decision myself, but I wanted some opinions. I was thinking of keeping it on the lower side (about 2000') for the cert. I was thinking the H225 or H152. I think I will fly the whole thing together and not worry about short mode.

I'm making the same decision except with a 2.6" fiberglass DX3. Having just smashed up my first go at level 1 when the rocket became unstable, I'm going with the DX3 with DD and an extra 16". I plan to launch it single deploy using the engine, but I'm going to keep the extra length to make it more than stable. I may make some other mistake this time around, but not the same one.

He can't fly before LDRS -- he's stuck letting me see this one, in person. :D

Don't be afraid to put a 3G motor in it. I've seen a few DarkStars (including my own) on 2G motors. They really don't go that high.

Cool 2G motors IMHO

H400VM
H100IM
H225WT

Cool 3G motors:
I180SK
I566VM
I175W
I345WT

I'll be at LDRS, so I can get good video and pics of the flight!
