A sweet looking rocket by any means, and big 'D powered' to boot!! Upgrades to E or G? :D:D

But is it me, or does it look a lot like an extended V2? (or that other one they had, the 'Cosmos' or 'Silver Streak' I think, a silver '1950's retro rocket..) same BT dia., same nose cone, same boat tail....

D'Uhhh, silly me...

I should actually look / do research to see what my country is offering. It is an extended 'V2'.

Well, I guess a kit that can be bashed into a V2!

No sence talking about it's design, but we can talk about how cool it looks!

Doc,

That's the Silver Comet--a classic Estes kit from the late 90/ealy 00s. Silver Streak does sound familiar from somewhere, though...

Does anybody know if the Canadian Arrow nose cone is going to be the straight V2 style or will it have some kind of detailing?

I just had the same thought. Hopefully it will be plain and the windows are decals. I plan on getting several for bashing. I might even make a Canadian Arrow of one!

That was interesting about the Canadian Arrow. I didn't realize how successful the V-2 was. The Canadian Arrow site has some good information and it also has links to more V-2 information / history.

BTW, I know this is sort of 'off' the topic but is there a V-2 kit currently available?
What it's like, etc?

Since this is being steered towards the V2, which I don't mind in the least!! Love teh A-4 / V2,a nd its history,,

As for kits, Estes has (had?!) two, a 'D' sized one, and their larger 'E' powered. (Which I think are overpriced, at least up here..)

LOC make a few, in different sizes.
Mountain side hobbies also has one (Seems to be their only one!)
And Aerospace Speciality Products has a range of V-2, from mini, to, well, large!
https://www.asp-rocketry.com/scalekits.html

Now, weren't they (the baddies in the 40's) also developeing a two stage rocket, to try and hit teh US / Canada? Any oteh info on this?

Okay, okay. You guys got me going. :D
I like the ASP V-2's. That mini would be great for my regular flying field. And I bet my granddaughter would like it painted up in the yellow and black scheme (saw it on the White Sands site yesterday and loved it).
Anybody flown this one - the mini?
The ABC one looks good, too but they're a little pricey, me thinks. That or I'm just cheap (well okay, that's a given)... ;)

In my previous life, Estes sold the third V2 kit based on the BT-55 with balsa nose and tail cones.

Estes sold the third V2 kit based on the BT-55 with balsa nose and tail cones.

Balsa Machining Services has those parts "in stock"!

https://www.balsamachining.com/CONES.htm

It's the BTC-55Z tail cone and the BNC 55F nose cone

He also has 'em for a BT-50 a BT-60 and the centure 1.685" tube as well as a BT-20 version with a 10mm hole for the old Apogee motors (would make great fin tip pods!).

Easy builds!

Anybody have or can generate the fin patterns?
That would be a great / easy scratch build...

I highly reccomend Peter Always book "Scale Bash" it has all the fin patterns for V-2 from a BT-50 up to a BT-80 size.

Great book! it lists scale models that can be built with common "Estes" parts like which plastic nose cone would be accurate for what scale model you want to build.

The book also lists what kits had what size nose cones and part numbers.

The scale models are listed by nose cone sizes shapes ie. 3:1 ogive 4:1 ogive, 5:1 ogive and 11 degree conical.

The book also lists body tube lengths and center of gravity location...very handy!

I can redraw whatever size fin pattern you want and email it to you if you want.

How bout a scratch BT-5, micro-maxx powered V-2? I think I spent all of about 1.50 on the parts and basswood. Flys like a bat and recovers with 3/4" plumbers tape wadding/12" streamer:D

Sandman, found another set of plans on Jim Z's site and they had the fins but it might be nice to have them redrawn "just to make sure" they're correct.
Where do you get this book?
I looked on Amazon and some of his books are out of print and EXPENSIVE. Not saying they're not worth it just a little more than I can put into my hobbies...
:)
The book sounds great, though!

Exactly, and not by much. It is exactly 10 time longer than its diameter.

When you go to Peter's site click on "Saturn Press"

You want "Scale Bash".

I also recommend "In the Shadow of The V-2" It has all the V-2 varients and a whole bunch of different paint schemes...OTHER than camo!

Camo paint job for a model rocket...right...Like I don't have enough trouble finding rockets!

Sandman ...that might be true if you launch(or land ) in the woods...my camo version stands out like a sore thumb on a grass field..now if it was green grass colored that would be hard to see!
