X-15

I started an X-15 build from a quest kit and an estes tude. She’s drying tonight. Any pointers/tricks on this particular build?

Update.... i hope i put it in the right spot? Forum gods? I hope this is the right place. I have a life so, i’m making sure: this is a rocket forum right? Scratch build? Right? Unfinished rocket? Right? And to be sure,the finished rocket goes into the X-15 finished rocket goes in the finished area forum? Am I correct? Please advise?

Seems like it could go here, but may be a better fit under the rocketry general discussion forum/LPR, as a custom build. Unless you're here to demonstrate any specific building technique, perhaps. I find all the various forums to overlap a fair amount anyway. And I love the X-15...

I've never built an X15 so no pointers - sorry
Interesting using a flower pot to support the tube. I assume there is a dowel or something sticking through the pot that is supporting the tube?

Yep, thanks guys! I use a dowel to paint on because the garage rafters are like 10 ft tall I hate ladders. I am a tinkerer....

I've built this kit, but I modified mine to a delta wing as was proposed for the real thing. Adding a half ounce of clay to the nose made mine fly much better. Also, I needed strong decal set to get the decals to stay down even on a Gloss Black paint job.

Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Balsa/paper combo. Gonna sand them smooth and sand the leading edge of the wings. Then paint it again. I reached out to Mark about some X-15 decals. I’m not sure whick ones to buy.

Flat Black now. Grey primer underneath in the back. Just working with Mark Hayes for some decals. The kit one are not that great.

Mark does quality work, the vinyl will be a nice addition.
