The World Space Modeling Championships (WSMC) was held 2 weeks ago in Serbia.

I've been doing other things since I got back, but wanted to put up a "reminder" post for those who may have missed Chris Taylor's announcement of WSMClive.com before it began. Or some may have checked it only for the first few days, and others may have missed it altogether.

So, please check out WSMClive.com. You will find daily reports there, and photos.

The big news from the US Team was that in the S8D Rocket Glide event, flown by the Junior team, the US Juinor Team on the GOLD medal. The team members were Matthew Berk, Craig Vinyard, and Alyssa Stenberg. Also, Alyssa, who is only 10 and has only flown R/C for two years, also won the individual SILVER medal in the same event.

Also, since I got back, I uploaded 10 short videos to give a taste of what it was like:

I am including a few photos here, including some not posted to WSMClive.

Yet more. The first two pics are a Saturn-IB whose second stage ignited while being prepped on he pad. The first pic is the second stage falling down, before the third stage (Service Module) fired and crashed. The second photo is the first stage still on the pad.

First photo is “Constellation Parachutealis”. The sky was often dotted with many parachute models flying in the same thermal. And then, more scale photos, including the Gold Medal winning Soyuz by Alexandr Levikh, and Chris Flanigan’s large N-1 model.

First photo is US Team senior manager John Langford, and Mary Roberts of Estes Industries. Next three are at the banquet. Last one is dinner one night later, back in Belgrade before everyone flew home.

James Duffy has posted his film recap of the 2010 World Spacemodeling Championship at https://vimeo.com/14926448

James has also done a "Director's Cut" version with his insightful commentary at https://vimeo.com/15771743

For those of you who haven't had the incredible experience in participating in one of these events, James' videos give a great feel for what it's like. They are extremely well done.

Thanks, James.

And thanks again to Chris Taylor and George Gassaway for making WSMC Live such a great success.

Steve
