Notably absent from that story is your Grandpa, who probably did his very best to not get caught snickering...I hit my Grandma with a cattle prod, as a joke.
She didn't think it was the least bit funny; I think I got three spankings that day, her, and both parents.
Same here, what works on one child wont necessarily work on the others.I am not sure that one size fits all. Parenting skills and punishments vary. I never found spanking to work, but it sure worked on me as a child.
Yup! I was spanked or paddled more than a few times while growing up in the 1960's and '70's. It certainly worked on me!Same here, what works on one child wont necessarily work on the others.
Don't get me wrong... I don't condone spanking children. What adults do to each other (with consent) is on them. That said, I can think of a few people who would benefit if they had their brains paddled back to where it belongs.
Frankly, a "dual-pronged" approach seems best to me.Yup! I was spanked or paddled more than a few times while growing up in the 1960's and '70's. It certainly worked on me!
Now when my first and only child was born in 1999, I attempted to apply the same "discipline" that I had received, and it was a total failure! She was so intelligent AND stubborn while a child that her attitude was more like "Is that the best ya got???" Only taking away something from her that she dearly loved had any real effect, so spanking/paddling is NOT for everyone, but for many I still believe it can work! Just depends on the child...
I agree. Is there any question why kids these days do the things that they do?"Old School" corporal punishment "worked a charm". Today, parents try to be "friends" with their children. One only need to compare "yesterday's children" with those around us now and the answer is very clear . . . Spare the rod and spoil the child !
