Who's flying their Saturn's in July?

I'l be launching 2 Estes #2001, one with the stock D motor mount, one with a 3x24 cluster and a K-36 with the stock 3x18 cluster.

We flew three today at our sport launch - my mini Saturn V (paper model powered by an A3-4T), and one of the other members flew his two models (an Estes 30th aniversary on a G motor and an original estes on an F). Pictures when they're posted to our website.

I agree, great photos, thanks for sharing. What adhesive did you use on the clear fins for your Thor-Agena B? I'm having a heck of a time with mine.

Thanks, guys!! I really had fun building and flying those models, even the Saturn - V. Too bad on how part of the recovery ended, but that's the way some things go.

Rocketcrab, I also had a tough time on the clear fin unit on my Thor-Agena B and fellow model rocketeer Kurt Schachner came to my rescue. I believe he's also here on TRF, so if he sees this thread, maybe he can chime in to answer your question. The Thor-Agena B is a very cool model! Flies great, too!

I flew my Cox Saturn V on 2 D12-3's last Saturday at the HARA launch. The rocket itself is 20 years old and I don't think I had it out since the 30th anniversary. It has the original parachutes that worked fine. As much as a hassle it is to deal with clusters, the multiple plumes add so much.

Thanks, Fred. My second K-36 kit back in 1970 suffered a worse failure; the entire engine mount blew out on ejection (it was a D13-3 powered flight) and
NONE of the chutes even came out. What was left of the model lawn darted nicely with everything just forward of the SII stage getting pulverized. Took me a while to get over that one.....

I've been prepping my Saturn V for launch this weekend. It needs a lot of nose weight! With 4 A10pt's and one D12-3 it comes in at 21.5oz! Adding up the max weights of all the motors I get 26oz, so I should be ok. My C/G is exactly 17.5 in from the bottom of the fairings. I don't really want to add any more nose weight.

We shall see...I hope the weather holds.

With a bird that heavy are you sure you have enough impulse for stable flight or enough altitude to deploy the parachutes? Ted

Mark, that seems awfully heavy for the engines you're planning on using. I flew my Estes K-36 Saturn - V last weekend using a D12-3 & four C6-3's and the final launch weight was just about 19 ounces. I used the Centuri version clear slip on fins, and the model flew perfectly (except for the harness/sling setup for the upper section). Just thought I'd let you know.

SUCCESS! Lift off was just past 11am this morning. A nice mostly straight launch. Arced just a bit into the wind. I would guess about 350ft. The capsule came off and the escape tower is cracked. That is the only damage.

Thanks to everyone here for the help/advise. A special Thanks to TonyPV! He gave me 5 redone igniter's with extensions on them, and him and BobH walked me thru my first cluster. Tony took some photos, I'll post them when he sends them to me.

After that launch, I sent up my Nuebaure 1/396 SV. I only had A10's and 1 1/4A3. The clouds were low so I sent it up on the 1/4. I guess you can count that launch, It cleared the rod, just.

So here are 2 more.

Bob had his vintage SV, but I had to leave before he sent his up.
