What is this part for?

I picked up the mini cowabunga from mad cow rocketry last week and was doing the part inventory and dry fit and I have an extra small tube that I am not certain what it is for. It is not listed on the inventory sheet. It appears to fit in the motor tube and if I use it to to push in the motor stop ring it would make sense but it pushes it way to far into the tube compared to what the instructions call for. It it looks like a perfect fit for the motor stop to me. Take a look and let me know what you think. I tried both a D and E motor and they would stop perfectly against the motor stop ring if I use it to push it in to this depth. 1 pick shows a D motor in the tube against the ring when pushed in with that tube.

Might be a stop for E motors and a spacer to put in for D motors.

Cave central is almost certainly right.
A similar sized piece has come in my Magician, Falcon 9, and Blackstar Voyager.

Of course Madcow would happily clear up the confusion if you asked them too.

Yeah, gonna call them Monday. I don't like the way it turned out after following the printed page instructions. They are either wrong or simply generic guidelines. The motor stop ring is it too high and the retaining clip is stop loose. I should have checked before I epoxied. I was in a hurry with my kid so it didn't set so fast. And I don't like it all. Hopefully I can just buy the tube, clip and motor ring again.

Most of us skip the motor stops and wrap masking tape (1/2" wide) and about the thickness of the motor mount tube on the nozzle end of the motor. This acts as a stop and does not limit the length of the motors you can use.

I don't use motor hooks either. Friction fit with masking tape on smaller motors - works better with cardboard tubes than fiberglass.

I also started skipping the motor blocks back in 2015. With the introduction of the Estes 29mm & 24mm retainer rings, I can fly D, E and F in 24mm and up to I in 29mm easily. D & E Estes motors. D, E, & F Aerotech motors. And if you go CTI, you can even hit G motors. Someone told me they either have or are planning to make one. In 29mm you go from E to I if the rocket can take it.

CTI makes several G's in 24mm. 29mm is limited to I for now, but I wouldn't bet against a J in the next 5 years.

The piece you are referring to is an adapter for using shorter black powder motors in your rocket, the adapter goes in first followed by the motor which should be long enough to properly fit the retaining clip.
