I am building a workshop in a carport - I become acquainted with a little thing called a hammer drill on concrete. Hard work!
Did you rent/borrow an industrial type or are you using a more consumer level hammer drill? After using an industrial one, I will never-ever use one I could afford to own myself. . .

Sandy.

I bought a Bauer at Harbor Freight it literally less than a minute per hole. I was using a Portal Cable. The Portal Cable took 10 minutes a hole. The Bauer was $109 and worth every penny.

A good hammer drill makes you happy each time you need to pick it up.
Whoever dies with the most tools wins....

I have a Black & Decker 1/2" combination drill that has a hammer function that I've had for years. I recently used it to install epoxied studs for our flagpole. Worked like a charm.

When I installed our 2 post lift in the pole barn I rented a hammer drill for the 3/4" epoxied studs. I had to drill through the reinforcing wire in the concrete... which it handled with ease.

Be careful when you break through on the other side. That's when the bit loves to grab and transfer all of that inertia back into you. That gets real hard on the wrists. The good news is that you only have to drill each hole once.

Jim
I recently was drilling some metal pipe and the bit broke through and twisted the drill motor and broke my little finger on right hand. It sucks to have a splint on dominant hand.☹

I bought a car that can run either in hybrid mode “forever” or in 100% electric mode for about 25 miles (typical daily run).

I’m a battery nut so I also watched this video on the status of worldwide battery production.

America is not the greatest country in the world....again as we see that China is the leader and will be in the future.

Depends on what the criteria is.

Material things are pretty low on my list of "essential items for living a good life".

Quote: China is "like living in a prison without bars."

Caroline Liu
What is life like for an average Chinese person in modern China?

Cons:
1. The population.
China's huge population really sucks, right now most people live and work in 4 biggest super cities. Imaging 50million people all together in 1/2 NYC.
If you are taking a public transportation to office, just get up early and avoid morning peak. Or you will see people scramble together, with funny smells.

2. Salary.
Monthly payments is not even enough for your rent. I'm broke!
P.s. Renting in central Shanghai is very expensive, like Manhattan.

4. Gender discrimination.
Most than 1/2 companies would list "male first" when they are hiring, and you cannot do anything about it, because laws do not protect female at all. Females are required to deliver sons.
Weeks ago there was a BBC news says feminist activists are under arrest, and cops threatened put them into a male custody room and group gang them.
If you see some girls are migranting to your country, show mercy.
People from China are still half barbaric. I'm proud of China's economic achievements, but this, nah.

5. Laws and law enforcements.
Cops won't do anything unless someone is successfully murdered. A fight won't give you a misdemeanor. A car accident won't be a DUI. One quote from my friend: "it's like living in a prison without bars."

6. Power is the most important thing.
Power is the ultimate solution to everything, money isn't. Money is just a byproduct of power.

7. Migrating truth
Rich families are migrating to developed countries, leaving poor people behind. Meaning wealthy people are transferring their assets to other places! People with resources do not have faith in the future of this country, so they stop building.
One of my friend is a pessimist, but her family is not rich enough for migrating to the states, so she has to deliver her baby in the states, that way at least the baby could have a US passport.

Drove three hours early this morning to do the second race in our state cross country mountain bike race series. Didn't have any expectations given how the first race went and lack of racing since 2019, but managed to get myself on the podium (3rd) in my class. So, that was a nice surprise. Legs and lungs felt pretty darn good and the weather wasn't making racing worse (86F and sunny). Dusty though, given the drought. So, not a bad day.

Yee-ouch. Occurrences like your pipe drilling exercise have often led me to 'speak in tongues'. I can be a real vocabulary expander. I hope your hand heals properly, the splint is bad enough.

Worked a bit today on the star jasmine growing near our patio.
Its aroma brings good memories of time spent along the Crystal Coast of North Carolina in years gone by.

started out today having to repair the top of the very flimsy garage door which got damaged yesterday when it came down on one of the dowel rods that I had laid out so instead of going back up when it hit it just jammed everything up and continued to twist the metal ,and bend the bracket that attaches the belt drive to the garage door.... anyway my wife and I got it straightened all back out and put together.

(Yesterday) Woke up and removed a dishwasher so the delivery folks could haul it away. Went to work. Got home and installed the new dishwasher.

The old one had a gradually increasing squeak and whine and occasional rattle while running. Over time, gradually, it had gotten pretty bad. We replaced it before it died.

Fixed myself and the XYL homemade sawmill gravy and cooked some frozen biscuits this morning. (I know, I know. I should have made the biscuits from scratch, but I just didn't feel like spending THAT much time on it. I was HUNGRY!)
