In case anyone is curious, the TSA does not allow missile launch tubes in your carry-on or checked luggage:

I work for the company that manufactures the launch tubes themselves. We often receive spent tubes back as gifts with notes of gratitude from the servicemen/servicewomen that used them and we are trying to get in touch with the soldier that tried to check this so we can send him a replacement.

More reason for me to create a replica of my LAWS rocket tube.

Mine is a used and damaged Vietnam era tube.

Photos later.

He should have taped a note to the tube:

Dear TSA inspector, this may look dangerous but it's just an empty tube. Really. Look inside. Do you think I'd be getting on the flight if it was anything else?

I put a similar note in a box containing a rocket that was being mailed.

I used to frequently pack a laptop in my large checked bag instead of kidding myself that I"d use it on the plane. Time after time I got one of those notes from the TSA stating that they had opened the bag to check inside and apologizing for anything disturbed. I started putting notes in myself saying "It's just my laptop, folks. Sorry for the inconvenience."
