What Happened to My JAVA?

It used to be that I could see imbedded videos on different websites. Now all I get is a white box with that tri-color, tri-shape icon in the upper-left corner. For all of you whom are far more computer literate than I, what could have happened and how might I fix it?

I know questions about hardware and OS will come up. I'm headed off to work so I'll have to answer those questions when I can.

You might try to go to java.com/en/download/manual and do a manual install.
