A recent thread started what car do you drive.

I am always curious what the TRF people do as a living?
I for one have switched from jet engine mechanic into adult "enternainment" then a composite tech into electrical work.

What do you dooo?

I work for a real estate developer/ manager. I run the asset management department - we're responsible for the financial health of properties. I spend a lot of time negotiating and closing mortgages for our commercial buildings. I also supervise our subsidized housing division and for some reason, manage the IT department...

I really am an absent minded professor. My job is ~50/50 teaching and research in organic and organometallic chemistry.

A student studying what and where?
Tri enrolled high school senior at community college, homeschool, and the NC School of Science and Math. :) I plan on going to NC State next year, studying Aerospace and Mechanical engineering.

Electrical Engineer doing project management on various items, to include LOTS of different stuff for the Ford class carriers and renewable/portable energy solutions for military and industry. I handle first article production and prototyping type stuff for the things that the 10 pound brains design.

I spend most of my time figuring out how the heck to teleport that bracket into that box and fasten it in with the screws that don't fit with tools that don't exist someplace that I can't see or fit my hands into.....while making sure it's wired and programed right and won't blow up when you push the power button on something that last week was just a drawing by a 3rd grader on a used napkin.

I teach third grade at a small rural K-8. I also run an after-school rocket club. I also supervise an after-school HPR team. Our goal is to send up a rocket to 100,000' two years from now.

I'm a "Research Leader, Discovery Chemistry" for a small pharma company. That means I manage the medicinal chemistry end of a preclinical research program, while also doing some drug metabolism and large scale production impurity identification and reference standard synthesis. I spend about 50% of my time doing reactions, and the other 50% wishing I was doing reactions.

Microbiologist ---> Application Specialist for a company ---> Project Manager ---> PM Team Leader ---> Marketing

Once you start down the dark path, forever will it determine your destiny.

Race cars and fondle women...

But...

I have weekends off...

And I am my own boss...

I'm a professional ice cube....

I'm a Multi Color Offset/Heatset Web Pressman, in other words a printer. I've been with my company for 27+ years. It was supposed to be a summer job after High School, then I was going to go to college. By the time fall came around I decided I liked money more then sitting at a desk. Been there ever since.

Tom-LMAO! I am so stealing that! Retired M.E. from GD Astrodynamics/Space Systems Div. Now I herd cats and pound the lumps out of pool tables.

I used to dress up in rugs and entertain millions at sporting events. (still do on occasion) Now I play with computers and get paid.

I work for Ma Bell. Not in the telephone side but the internet backbone side - as in when ISPs, large businesses & governments want internet or private networks.

For example, lets say a big US auto manufacturer wants a fat network connection to their cold weather testing facility in northern Ontario. They contact their big pipe provider in the US, Company X. Company X then contacts us to give them a "wholesale" big pipe for the north-of-the-border route. Company X then buys wholesale from us and then resells the entire route as their complete retail product.

For ISPs, if you have internet through one of the "small guys", they're really buying theirs wholesale from the big guys and re-selling to you, with a markup.

Aluminum tubing relocation industry. Mostly just sit and stare out the window.

After many, many, many, MANY different job titles in my past I am now on the permanent sick, lame and lazy roster (i.e. disabled as Dave puts it) LoL

Teamster-Truck Driver Heavy, a catch all phrase at the DOE cleanup site I work at, it means I drive trucks of all types, from pick-ups to 500,000 lb heavy hauls or, I run a shovel, forklift, wear SCBA and hang out around the byproducts of our nations nuclear weapons programs ( ie the left over waste). The waste is not only highly radioactive, but caustic, poisonous, and just generally nasty stuff made of a cocktail of hundreds of chemicals and dissolved nuclear fuel rods. I also get to spend some of my time as an Instructor at the Hammer Volpentest Training Facility teaching Load Securement.

Waaay back in the day, started out as a long distance operator for Ma Bell. That's right. A cord board. "Operator. Can I help you?" Then moved to handling haz mat for a government facility I won't name.

Main career... Pulled wrench on Detroit and Cummins powered transit coaches for 3 decades, including fabrication and machine shop work. Until I broke my back. Wrestle a 945 lb transmission into place, no problem. Drop a 1700 lb rear axle housing onto the dowel pins, zero effort. Pull a 300 lb cylinder head and put it on the bench, any day of the week.

Go to move a damn tool box that's on wheels, meet the floor, and get carried out screaming, strapped to a back board. Been staring at the floor ever since.

Today, they pay me to not come in. Just got back from ARLISS/XPRS. They paid me to attend that. Had a ball.

Sr Technical Director over a global staff of network security professionals for a very large telecommunications company. My team configures, deploys and supports firewalls and associated security devices (URL filters, proxies, VPNs, IDS, etc) for clients all over the world. We have a good time and work hard. The industry is changing quickly as we move into virtualization, integration of security functions and trying to stay ahead of the increase in threats we see on a daily basis.
