Did my first ever experiment papering basswood with white glue and copy paper (normally I use adhesive label paper). Worked well; not as quick as label paper but still pretty easy. Result is impressively strong.
    IMG_9721.jpg
One difference: I can actually see how the paper settled into the grain a bit. Definitely requires a coat of filler-primer on top. The label paper is heavier and stays flat (cardstock would presumably do the same).

I'm recuperating from a cold and wondering about why Quest got out of the BP business? Is there a past thread about that?

They got their latest blackowder motors from china. Importing is likely more expensive, and Aerotech (now owner of Quest) already produces composite propellant, so they developed the 18mm Qjets

Looks nice - I really want to learn to airbrush. But it took me a minute to figure out why it looked a bit different, then, Aha, the fins!

    Outstanding work!

One of my favorite rockets and you certainly did it justice.

I watched my student team having their G10 fins (CNC router) and plywood centering rings and bulkheads (laser) cut out. Ten minutes to do a job that would probably have taken me quite a few hours, if not days, by hand/drill/dremel. I am green with envy when I step into the student workshop of the new engineering building. 14x40 lathe, Bridgeport milling machine, half a dozen small 3D printers and one big-un, grinding and polishing machine, welding setup, much more. I hope to get permission to use some of the equipment.

Since you're taking the time to guide a student team, I'd say you've earned that perk.

Jay - for the tracker here's a quick overview of how to get spoken telemetry from your iPhone during flight:
    • change the screen auto-lock delay to 5 minutes (or never for higher flights) via iPhone Settings > Display and Brightness
    • make sure mute switch is off
    • turn up volume
    • be on tracker page
    • don’t put phone to sleep (which you won’t want to anyway, otherwise how can you track your rocket?)
that’s it, it will automatically call out data once in flight. I also set my screen to record so I can play back the flight afterwards. You can edit the options in Control Center to add the screen recording button when you swipe down from the upper right corner.

    Good luck!

I can't begin to say how much l love my Featherweight GPS tracker. I had a rocket come in ballistic and it completely obliterated my Featherweight tracker. But the app took me to within 1' of my rocket. Or what was left of it. Fantastic device! I'm sure you'll love it!!

Thanks for the tips, I did find the sim feature already and it is pretty cool.

    Question for featherweight users....

What’s the best orientation for the antenna ? I’m guessing towards the sky when the rocket is vertical...

Worked on a 3" scratch built design.
    1 piece of 3" LOC tubing $11
    nose cone $21
    29mm motor mount tube $2
    rail buttons $4
plywood, glue and paint that was laying around shop $12?
Probably about a $50 dollar rocket.
Designed it to be inexpensive to build, easy to build, will fly on a full F motor up to a small I.
Weight is about 730 grams without motor or laundry so it should be a good performer on an Aerotech G80 single use flying without a waiver
I wanted something big enough to be impressive but small enough to fly without a waiver to demonstrate to school and scout groups.
    I named it UCANDOIT2

Fab’d the nose cone mount for featherweight tracker and did some testing fully installed in the nose cone for the iris. Wet sanded the booster, did some touchup on the roll pattern, and put down my sticker shock decals. Good day! IMG_3428.jpg 60410318249__85B9FE43-0A78-4BA3-9A73-40C4DA5DC3CD.jpg

Finally soldered my EggFinder LCD/GPS unit and installed it in my Black Aero case.

Then promptly messed up by the numbers assembling my TRS by soldering the GPS module in backwards. But the solder joints are beautiful! (Hot air station helps alot!)

Launched two rockets and bought a whole passel of Dark Matter motors. One of my clubs is planning a Dark Matter Drag Race in recognition of the club president's retirement after serving 13 years (!). He likes Dark Matter motors. He really likes them.

The weather here still remains non-rocketry friendly, so one must take what they can get.

I am very angry with kuririn. And by angry I mean jealous.;) LOOK at that friggin' flying field! Until I joined TRA I'd never seen a flying field more than 500' across. Didn't know they existed...

How big is that area you're flying from kuririn (ya lucky stiff!)?

    Best -- Terry
