Back home from NY Power, where I got my L1 done. I'm calling it NY Powerline, as I landed two (2!) rockets on the power line there. They both finally came down on their own, albeit sans chute and nose cone. I hadn't realized I couldn't fly F and G off a 1/4" rod there, rail only, so I launched a few lower power rockets there. Got two of my night rockets launched, after two misfires, replaced the motor in the tall Mean Machine covered in EL wire and it flew nice, the Sub-Zero decided to pop over 90 degrees and it flew over our heads and way out into the field across the road there. maybe slightly misaligned hastily attached rail button? Also, the King Tut pyramid flew, got an exemption due to it being an odd-roc to fly off a 1/4 rod, but I think the F I chose had too long a delay, and with the rod angle due to wind, it arced over, hit the ground, and then had a great parachute ejection which made me LOL. It's a tough rocket, no real damage and will fly again.

Anyway, I went to get, and got, my L1 using the LOC 4" Goblin on an H128W even though my delay was too long. Everything else was gravy- good to meet the Wildman. Hats off to the MARS club, great group of folks, thank for the event!

Picked up my AT 75/7680 case, 75mm RAS, and Rear Closure from a friend who picked it up from the vendor at FITS for me, also ordered a M1550R for the Nuclear Sledgehammer (very disappointed the M1955DM hasn't been certed yet, but can't afford to wait any longer to make sure I have a motor to fly at SodBlaster II).

You were the one that got both those rockets in the powerlines? Glad you got them back. Lost my night rocket in the farmer's field across the street, and a new 29/40-120 case in it.

This is really funny...no time for a picture, but I just finished our KOSMO (NAR Section 427) 3" diameter club rocket over the holiday weekend, and I have named it "XLR8N" - in 1" gold letters. OpenRoc says 600' on an F42, 1157' on a G40, and 2778' on an I205. Unfortunately, the field for our launch this weekend is small enough that only F or G power will be appropriate.

Started building a replacement for my Darkstar Jr that is somewhere in NY. Mach1 Black Hole BT60/29mm. Also started working on an Eggfinder GPS system.
Despite losing a new rocket on its second flight I had a great time at NY Power. Big thanks to MARS members for all their hard work. I hope I can come back again next year (or maybe before).
A little discouraged, but shovel on another load of money and carry on:rolleyes:

Sorted out approx 150 lbs of propellant for various ammo box transport. Primered a 7.5 and 5.5 tube. Stripped and sanded a nose cone to go on a cobbled together Aerotech Mirage ll. Broke out too many Quarks from Cris and set up soldering station for tonight.

Hey fyrwrxz are we gonna see you at NSL?

Last nite - fixed some EMI issues in CNC-land. Tonite - TBD, many possibilities...prep sleds, start flash-building a Saturn V for the June 16 launch, DART launch wire maintenance, ???

Spotted an error in this model after I started the print. Mistyped a dimension and offset the 0° and 180° fin slots forward by 26mm. Lots of dependencies to sort out. Its fixable, but it will be less time-consuming to start over -- plus which I thought or a better way to do the motor retention.

Hey Dave, talked to Kennny and thot he was blowing it off due to the launch fee. He stopped by last night, now sounds like he may go. If he takes Annie, he may spend the night. I have to be back in town Sunday for out of town guests, but may roll out just to visit. I hear Cris will be there, but Warner is not. Maybe Stickershock? Hope his wife is doing okay. She has to sign another rocket! Pimp Chile getting a Mommy soon. New stick of CF getting primed and calcs being done this weekend. Kenny suggested a MommaMagg to go with the Maggma. Still need to fly that multi motor and carve out airstart room. Got the electrics, I'm just lazy basically building whole new hangar full.

Did you stop the print? An alternate version with offset fins, the forward pair swept back and the aftward pair swept forward, would look pretty cool.

Yeah, I'm the power line guy. Sorry you lost your night rocket, which one was it? Mine went a lot further into that field than I thought, it was found by someone else while I was looking way short of where it was. My red max had a new motor case in it, was very happy to get it back.

<smile> My kid made the same suggestion. Time and filament are both too expensive for that kind of indulgence, I am afraid. Its a disappointment, though. If I'd gotten a successful print we might have been able to fly it tomorrow.

A teachable moment: Be careful about naming the sketch planes, and keep the cutting- and lathing-tool sketches separate from the solids sketches so that the whole timeline won't turn red if (when) you have to go back to correct something.

PSX_20190531_183953.jpg PSX_20190531_180716.jpg I finished the color coats on my Mach 1 Exiter, once the paint cures it is time for wet sanding, decals, and clear coat.

We have also been launching some small air rockets in the front yard.

Helped out at the local club launch — mostly running a weed eater to take care of the high grass.

My night rocket got fired off accidentally. They were recycling someone else's rocket and next thing I know it's in the air. Didn't get any photos or videos of it going up. Had a G76-7G Mojave green motor in it. I really wanted to see the green trail it would have left in it's wake. 20190512_223130.jpg

IMG_1139.jpg Finally got some paint on 3" scratch build. gonna have to sand and respray the strakes, middle section, I used a Rustolium gloss, not the best. (Navy) Thats Rustolium oil rubbed bronze on the top. My brother saw it, told me I should have used the bronze on the whole rocket, He's right.

Tooling around trying to get these fin fairings to feel right. Will definitely need some filler material around the front end due to the geometry of the trim I'm using.
