Spring cleaning (Earth Day). The neighborhood association sponsors a collection of not-usually-recyclable and not-recyclable items.

Getting all of the broken/obsolete electronic off my bench made room for this come up off my office floor -- where its been for two weeks.

    20190419_191155.png

Its going to be a while before I can put it together.

Took the opportunity of sorting out the dead ones to get the rattle can collection out of boxes on the shop floor and up onto a shelf where I can see them.

Put the airbrush right there too, to remind me that I am not going to buy any more rattle cans.

I gave up on trying to assemble that quark, before removing it from the packaging, I sent it to Connor in NY to build and test it. That was well worth it. Eggtimers can be drop shipped to Connor to build. The parts are too tiny for my eyes and I don't have the specialized soldering equipment for smd's.

Rocket /w Enji Mini Eye Sports Cam. 3D printed capsule for this 24mm cube camera. Rocket made from a Xmas wrap tube, 3D printed fins. The camera works as advertised. Good detail, 1080p mode on a rocket going 100mph to 433 feet.

Built three 54mm research motors using Sharon's Sparkler formula, using three different nozzles. Organized all our 54mm nozzles and listed them with our motors files. Tomorrow, we burn those three motors on a test stand to characterize Sharon's formula.
For the last couple of weeks, I have been mixing and casting 54 & 75mm grains using Sharon's Sparkler 2 and Wayside White formulas:

About 65 Lbs. of propellant. Hopefully enough to get us through LDRS and the fall launches at TRA/PHX.

Nope - we aren't done yet: still need to cast ten 98mm grains of Wayside White for LDRS....

Yeah, she's really been cracking the whip on this poor boy. I will be breaking out the Hobart 20 qt. for that batch. Waiting on our order for 98mm caps from Tru-Core. We will need a cool morning to cast 26 lbs. of Wayside White, the Papi curative sets up fast.

Whew! Hooked up the battery and got the tones.
Now I just need to order a Mach1 Bt60 Black Hole DD (29mm motor)to put it in. The SMT designs AV bay option looks pretty sweet. Picked up some Venom LiPo's at a local hobby shop for power. This should be a good flyer for my club's field

This is Sharon with her latest acquisition:

The black tube on the left is the motor mount tube, and part of the reason we are trying to get good characterization numbers on her sparkler formula. To upscale from 75mm motors to 6" motors, you need really good data on your rocket propellant. You could try to get her to discuss her formulas in the "Restricted/Research" forum, but like most people who have a really good rocket propellant formula, she probably won't be giving it out.

I need to leave the paint on the Polecat BBII alone for a while before cleaning up a couple minor oversprays and doing vinyl and clear coat. I did, however, allow myself to assemble the sections and get a preview of the finished product. I am giddy with excitement for having built a big version of my favorite rocket design. 20190420_100831.jpg

Not unless they are in the Restricted Reasearch section. Afaik Hardline (Sharon) or Wayco ( Wayne) have not shared that information on TRF, for any of their formulas (at least not intentionally).

Yesterday I flew my Nike Apache to around 36k' and M2.1. O3400 staging to M2020.

Recovery was a little sub-optimal. I'll post some more details after I get back from the road trip.

I am designing a cover for the front of the WilsonFX to protect the toggle switches.

If you haven’t already thought of it, please make it so putting on the cover sets all pad switches and bank switches into the off position.

Actually, activity was a couple of days ago. I forgot my password and got booted from TRF. Angie caught it and sent me the password reset link. Thank you Angie! Damn computers and damn old brain.

Anyway I tested my calculated BP ejecton charges and found them to be just a bit less than desired. Plan to refine the load just a bit when it quits raining. Cert 1 attempt in May.

Or cuts out the battery(ies) to render the other switches irrelevant? Would that be sufficient according to applicable rules and in your mind Steve? I ask for future reference.

First, I don’t think there are any rule implications here. Our club just got a Wilson F/X and a concern I have with it is that it’s too easy to launch multiple pads (on multiple banks) at once and the visibility of small chrome handled switches increases the likelihood. A cover that could be closed between flights that would reset all of the bank and pad switches to prevent unwanted (and potentially dangerous) ignition of multiple rockets would be a way to do this without a redesign.
I also want to emphasize that this is my own personal concern as a user (I’m very interested in how human-machine interfaces can either allow, even passively promote, or help prevent accidents, the classic Murphy’s Law), not anything official. I understand the argument that strict attention to detail on the part of the LCO will prevent such accidental launch events, but unfortunately people make mistakes.

OK, I misunderstood the first post regarding the Wilson. I thought we were talking about covering a switch band on a rocket. (Why there would be toggles and why a cover is needed I did not speculate.) My bad.

Today I upgraded my tube slotting setup. I can now get perfectly straight fin slot for my next rocket!
I also got a new milling bit work flawlessly on the drill press. IMG_20190420_211718.jpg IMG_20190420_212401.jpg IMG_20190420_215125.jpg

When you say 'spray white first', do you mean shooting paint at taped areas before applying the second color?
