Mentored the UTC SEDS 2018 team today. They learned the crazy Jim method of chute packing and ribbon folding shock cord. Also stopped some silly sim errors. They and the professor are going to Bayboro, NC this weekend. Prof is attempting an L-2. They were thrilled after packing their first multistage MD rocket.

Question: Are you considering using PTFE (Teflon) wear strips on the vertical guides to reduce friction on the airframe?

Hadn't considered it. In general I leave a tiny bit of play when I load the rocket on a tower...a few mm all around. They tend to leave like a scalded cat, so I wouldn't anticipate too much loss to friction in only 10 ft of distance.

Glad to be of service, and also glad to not be reviewing NIH proposals. I don't know how you academic guys do it...I'm glad you do, but I'll gladly stay on the industry side.

Trying out poster tack as bay lid sealer. Sticking better than electrical tape so far.

Finally pulled my Madcow Nike-Apache out of the box and started washing parts and planning the build. I saw one of these fly at the Sod Blaster launch and am super excited about building my own.

I also have a 4" Estes upscale and my L3 project to build this winter, along with an RC project of some sort for a club build challenge, so it's going to be a fun building season here!

I've moved houses once and jobs twice....in the last year, and this is the first that i've been back in that time! Can't wait to get back to flying and get my L2 project finished!

I guess mentioning BNC may have been misleading. I meant very generally that sort of spring loaded push-twist-lock mechanism, but at the airframe diameter, for joining sections.
Oh, I do here that! I'm on my second new job, and only part done with my second move in under two years. And three years before that, too. I've got a part finished L2 project currently in the hands of the movers that thinks I don't love it anymore.

So, possibly two L3 attempts at the Sod Farm in 2019?

Before I left for work I tidied up my bench in preparation for my next build. I also received notification that said build has arrived at my house and I confirmed with my wife that it arrived. T-minus 58 minutes until I get to leave and check out my kit!

I did the same a week ago. But I decided I want to be able to fly the booster as a SS Nike Smoke, so I got a nose cone from Madcow and have it set all up to house the recovery electronics. Just waiting on fin alignment guides from Wildman

Sod Blaster is my target date, yep. Should make for another great event.

As for today, I officially kicked off my build season with the first mixing of JB Weld and Epoxy. 20181009_183908.jpg

Awesome! I aiming for June, assuming I can get my L3CC to attend... if not, most likely FITS.

Started work on my first low power bird in several years today... it’s nkce to build something small!

Who's your L3CC, Kent N. by any chance?
Looking forward to seeing both yours and Ryans flights.

Oh, for that I want to try PVC pipe fittings. I'll have to drag the NC and shoulder to Home Depot for some test fitting.

    Edit: threaded PVC pipe fittings.

It was last night when I started,,,,,,,
printed up flight cards, club applications for upcoming launch.
started to print collages of photos from club launches and outreach events from the last few years for our club 10th anniversary picnic.
Didn't think I had so many pictures

Not strictly, or exclusively, rocket-related but I unpacked the new touch probe for the CNC.

    20181012_103741.png

I am stuck in town this weekend, so the HPR flying season is over for me. I'll be spending the afternoon cleaning out the range box and packing away motors for the winter.

Performed ejection testing on my 2" Frenzy. I discovered that I have some fairly serious issues with sealing the altimeter bay that I am going to have to work through, and 2/3g of 4F was not enough to pop the nosecone and main out, but it was more than enough to split the lower airframe in half... back to more testing I guess!

Getting ready for tomorrow's PSC launch at Weber Farm . Apogee B payload altitude rocket with new Firefly altimeter. Estes V2 with motor mount built a little heavy for E motor, also added a short payload section for the Firefly and a personal alarm/ locator. I'm also trying out the Jolly Logic Chute Release. I built an AT h165r motor for my NCR Lance Delta. I plan to fly it with Firefly on board and the new Jolly Logic CR.
Madcow DX3 DD on an AT I195.

Did an OpenRocket fractional upscale of NCR's SA-14 Archer. 2.6" paper to 3" FG. Now I'm working on my EggFinder LCD. Finishing up GPS add-on and hopefully finishing the case mods.
