Now that the weather in upstate NY has gotten cold, I have been inside and in a bit of a building frenzy. I am trying to finish the numerous 1/2 built or otherwise stalled rocket projects, and have begun a few more.

Below is my current ist, and I would be interested to know what is everyone else building/working on? Rockets marked * are in the dreaded sand/fill/sand/fill/sand/prime/sand/prime..... cycle.

Kitbuilds in progress:

1) Original ESTES Constellation
2) Original ESTES Drifter
3) Original ESTES Zoom Broom Goonybird *
4) Quest Intruder *
5) Quest Big Betty *
6) Quest Astra 1 *
7) ESTES Deep Space Transport

Clones:
1) Clone of a Little Joe I by Yitah Wu, (stalled over the summer) powered by 4 13mm motors. Needs final paint and decals

Scratchbuilds:
1) Triellian Scoutship
2) Goony Goblin needs final paint and decals
3) 13mm powered Micro Bertha *

Clone 'kits' assembled this morning for future build:

1) Estes Avenger
2) Estes Condor
3) Estes Starblazer
4) Centuri Quasar

Still stalled projects:
1) Fliskits Grissom
2) Upscaled Super SPEV F (for E and F engines)
3) Upscaled ESTES Deep Space Transport
4) ESTES BT-80 V2 'Blossom' variant
5) Scract Earth Luna Transport
6) Scratch A5 (needs some dreaded masking and final paint color)
7) Conversion of launch control system to a relay system.

Rockets "In Drydock" after flying season danmage:

1) ESTES Maxi Brute V2: needs motor mount replaced.
2) Big Bird Zero lost two fins due to a launch rod hang.

Online:

1) Big Betty : Decals needs to be finished in Coreldraw
2) MPC 'large kit' Decals needs to be finished in Coreldraw
3) ESTES Astron Color kit names decal sheet: needs to be finished in Coreldraw.

The website needs updating as well, as I have a new workshop,
many new rockets, etc.

Whew!!

Currently,
I've got 5 or 6 that only need shock cord mounts.
A Blackhawk SA-2 that only needs primed and painted.

The only project that's stalled, is an Estes Mercury Redstone.

Winter time projects, an Estes Maxi V2, Orbital Transport, and a Saturn V. When those are done, then I'll get back to my stash of easy to build kits. I have one upscale in mind, just need to gather the parts, and measurements.

Yowzers! Besides a few minor tweeks/upgrades, I only have one project on the table - a 5" Cluster Bomb upgrade. Still gotta get some pics and start a thread.

Well, I'm in repair mode, and just building a few things until Christmas (I hope). So, I'm currently waiting on the fillets to dry on my Fat Boy, and waiting for the first coat of primer to dry on my Death Star.

Oh man!! I was just down the basement again, and realized that I forgot a few things:

Scratch 3 x 13mm Goonybird: 'Dexscape' needs final paint and decals

repair on vintage Shrike.

Final paint on Boosted Alpha

I also need to take a day and make aout a dozen parachutes. I keep swapping from 1 rocket to another for launch days.

Maybe it's the pressure...or lack of it...
I really only build one at a time...Right know, I'm just starting the Estes "VENUS PROBE"...looks like a fun little machine...Think I'm gonna keep it stock though...and I have been working on a new launch pad downstairs in the basement...

I have to much going on............ My build area is a mess!!!!!!

I've got "Goblin fever" and parts everywhere. More on that later.

I've got kits galore in my "on deck" box under the build table - and if people don't stop offering such cool stuff on eBay, I'll probably have more.

I've actually started only 2 right now - Citatation Patriot with 24mm motor mount and Der V3 with "E" motor mount. Decals and all other stuff in hand, just gotta finish the balsa fins and slap together.

I'm torn between 3 projects for my next beyond the two on the table now. Kit built Estes Sam-4 with no mods, Kit Built Estes Optima converted to a 3 x 24mm x 3.75" (E) motor mounts (plus a couple other minor changes for constructability), or the expansion of my Goblin family.

Maybe all 3..............

I'm going insane.................

-----> my wife :kill: <----- me

If I listed all the stuff in my "to build" box and on the drawing board for scratches, clones, and bashes, well, Astronboy would appear to need something else to do.

-Estes AMRAAM
-Estes Skinny Mini
-Quest Zenith II
-Custom Twister
-Flis Kits Dueces Wild
-PML AMRAAM 3

Model(s) that I completely forgot about until this post:
-Estes Mini-Patriot

-LOC Viper III (minor MMT buckling)
-Aerotech HV Arcas (minor BT & paint damage)

Model(s) that has been sitting in the corner for many many moons:

Now that I look at it, I have way more models that need finishing than ones that are flight worthy (non-naked). And they call me lazy :D

Bushrat,

dunno if this is too late for you or what but here's what I did for finishing my Ion Pulsar:

before gluing them on I put some masking tape on the inside (glue side) of the two big rings for the upper tube. then I sprayed them gold, a few coats.

primered and finished the rocket just like usual. nose cone black too.

take the tape off the rings, put them on the tube... a couple dots of cyanoacrylate and ... voila, just like the picture and no messy taping and overspray.

we skipped all the **** dot decals!! but the three black ovals on each fin side are great.

Ion Pulsar flies great on B and C motors.

enjoy!

Cls -

Thanks for the tip - that's exactly where we are in the construction. By the way - were you surprised at the length of the dowels at the ends of the fins? I thought they'd be long enough to support the model upright. Or did we end up getting the short ends of the sticks ?
Here... allow me :kill:

yeah, the fin sticks were just a little too short!!

get some 1/8" dowel and make longer ones. I wish I had done that before I painted it. too late now, gotta fly it 'till it breaks :)

--

oh yeah, some on-topic material... what I am building right now:

- half a dozen rockets on the fix-it table

- build a triellian scout (see other thread, my son is named Aidan too)

- body paint & finish on the Little Joe II (another Apogee capsule based one)

- hoping to get back to the Orbital Transport soon, maybe tomorrow

- thinking about an xmas tree & snowman rocket...

- thinking about a couple level 2 projects. definitely a mach-buster like a Giant Leap Thunderbolt 38. and also just about to order parts for a 4x upscale Custom Tristar.... thinking about it too much though... I am tempted to try making the nose cone out of styrofoam & fiberglass & epoxy, and the tube out of fiberglass. naa, I think I will order some LOC parts and be done with it.

- kitting out parts & instructions for a half-dozen Crayon rockets. anybody want one? :)

My winter project is a scratchbuilt upscale, 136%, of an AT Mustang, well sorta. The fin pattern will be the same only my version will only have 3 fins. Bodytube LOC 2.56", length 42" and motor tube 29MM. RocSim says 20 oz. and stable. I'm going to attempt to bevel all the fins like Midpwrguy does. Will use T-nuts for motor retention.

This will be my first zipperless rocket. It will split around 14" from the Tulanko tail.

Well, this winter is going to be busy for me...

I am taking all of my original proto-types for FlisKits products (well, the ones that still exist....) and refurbishing them then retiring them per a suggestion from Vern Estes to save and protect them.

I will then (with the help of Brian and family), build up flying replacements for all of them, so counting the two new rockets coming out that will be 19 new builds...

**then**, before spring, we have about 4-6 other kits that we will need to have proto-typed at least twice in preparation for production, not to mention a launch pad(s) and controller(s)

going to be a busy season! although unless I can get my paint booth set up, finishing will be a real bear...

Aside from FlisKits related stuff, I also want to refurbish:

Sprint-73 for retirement
Mini-Orbital Transport (major damage over the past few weeks)
Astron Gyroc (original K-kit that is showing signs of wear)
Astron Spaceman (original K-kit)
Maxi Mars Snooper (general repair and upgrade to F power)
Maxi-Grissom (general repair and strengthening)
A slew of mini/maxi versions of popular FlisKits kits.
