When paint I like lay the paint down and of course get it flow then I wait about 30 minutes and put clear down light to medium coats and flow the clear. I consider myself done at this point. I don't wet sand I just leave it alone and put decals on.
In this case I'm considering putting the decals on before putting the clear on so 1 they are protected and 2 they blend in.

Have any of you wet sanded the top coat and applied the decals followed by clear?

I know it would probably look great but I want a flyer and with my luck it will crash and burn.

Putting decals on over a sanded area will do 2 things.
Won't stick well as it allows for trapped air and micro bubbles.
And when you clear over it, the clear around your decal will show the sanding scratches. You won't like it.
Better to decal after color and dump clear on. Sand the clear and buff if your looking for a smooth finish.
