VAST will be hosting a Sport Launch this Saturday, October 4th, from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm at our launch site, Croft Field, in Swoope, Virginia (see directions/map on main page of our website). Waiver is for 15,000 feet AGL with an "M" impulse motor limit. Larger motors will be considered on a case by case basis. Dual-deployment will be required for all flights that may exceed 7,500 feet AGL and/or have a total installed impulse level of "K" or higher. E-mail [email protected] with request and details for larger motors and/or anticipated flights over 7,500 feet. Level 1 & 2 Certification flights (Tripoli or NAR) can be done with advance notice. Newly licensed high power dealer will be in attendance with growing inventory. Email [email protected] with requests or more information. Limited supplies of "G" motors and below will also be available for purchase at the site.

Kids fly free! Launch fee for adults is $10.00 ($5.00 for club members) for the day. Spectating is free and encouraged! NOTE: Porta-potties will be on site!

Just to add to the excitement of it's rocket launches, VAST will be sponsoring a few casual model, mid-power, and high power contests at it's October launch. Come find out if you've got what it takes to win one of these things...

Model Rocket Spot will be a kids (12 & under) spot landing contest for motors "A" through "C". A target area will be designated and the entry that lands closest to the point with a safe & successful launch will win. Any entries landing greater than 300' from the designated spot will receive a maximum score of 300. Various Estes kits will be awarded to the top three winners (min. value $10.00).

Mid-Power Rocket Spot will be a young adult (13+) to adult spot landing contest for motors "D" though "G". Same as the kids, a target area will be designated and the entry that lands closest to the point with a safe & successful launch will win. Any entries landing greater than 500' from the designated spot will receive a maximum score of 500. Various larger Estes kits and an Aerotech Mustang kit will be awarded to the top three winners (min. value $20.00).

HPR Spot Landing Contest will be an HPR spot landing contest for motors "H" though "J". No minimum altitude, just a completely safe and successful flight. A target area will be designated and the entry that lands closest to the point with a safe & successful launch will win. Half the collected entry fees for that contest will be awarded to a single winner (min. $20.00 cash).

HPR Predicted Altitude Contest will be a HPR altitude contest for motors "H" though "K". Entrants will predict the altitude of their flight before handing the range card over to the LCO. The entry that gets the closest to their predicted altitude (as reported by on-board electronics) and has a completely safe and successful launch will win. Half the collected entry fees for that contest will be awarded to a single winner (min. $20.00 cash).

Fees: $2.00 per flight for the Model and Mid-power Spot Landing Contests; $5.00 per flight for the HPR Spot Landing & Predicted Altitude Contests.

Launch Director will designate spot locations before the actual contest begins. Launch Director reserves the right to disqualify any entry for unsafe or unsportsman like conduct. Launch Director reserves the right to cancel any event for lack of participation.

Remember, these contests are intended to be casual, fun events. Don't get caught up in details. :)

Sunday, October 5th, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm will be a Tripoli Research Launch at the same site. The Research Waiver will be 11,250 feet AGL (75% of standing waiver). "M" impulse motor limit with larger motors allowed on a case by case basis. E-mail [email protected] with request and details for larger motors and/or anticipated flights over 7,500 feet AGL. Dual-deployment is encouraged for the higher altitude flights. Per the revised Tripoli Research Safety Code, any Tripoli member 18 years old and above can fly commercial made and certified motors within their certification level. To fly research motors, you must be a Tripoli member 18 years old and above and be certified minimum Level 2. Launch fee is $10.00 ($5.00 for club members).

If you have any questions, feel free to respond. Hope to see you on the field!
