Just got back from spending the weekend on the <a href="https://www.patriotspoint.org/content3.asp?catID=3226">USS Yorktown</a> aircraft carrier.

If you have a scouting (or other similar) group, I highly recommend this trip!

The Yorktown was responsible for the recovery of Friendship7 and Apollo 8.
There are replicas of both on the hanger deck.

Is it still an active Carrier or has it been decommisioned and put on display?

I live a little over a hour away, been there twice and have never heard about the camping trips!!! It sounds like a lot of fun.....
 
Is that the one at Patriots Point in Charleston? Been there before, and loved it! Man, that thing is awesome! Pretty creepy feelings in a few spots though.

They often host Boy Scout troops for weekend camping trips.
I've been there a gazillion times and don't remember the Mercury / Apollo displays. Are those recent additions?
