A little side project I am working on using some ping pong balls and a couple of Dodecahedron's made from 67lb paper. The Dodecahedron's will be glued together on the BT50 tube and the PP balls will be cutout to fit around the BT55 tube (forward end) so we don't disturb the parachute compartment.

I'll post more as this progresses. :D

You MUST kit this one!

Puh-leeeeze!
Are you volunteering to beta test it if I do?

If you were to build this from a kit I would assume that it will test your nerves.
I now have a new patch of gray hair after making that Dodecahedron....

:D

I didn't have any plans to kit this but instead I will post all the fin patterns and tricky steps as I go along. In the end I will provide a parts list so basically this thread will be a "How To Build This Wicked Thing" ;)

The design was worked up in such a way that you should be able to get all the parts from Semroc.

Sure. It it survives me and my non-Euclidean geometry, you might have the first working hyperdrive!;)

It looks sweet and I don't have to worry about gray hair because my hairs fall out before they have a chance to turn gray.

that's really cool! Don't forget the plans section when you have everything together, can't wait to hear how it flies!

InFlight,

Very interesting design! Judging from the (relative) size of the PPBs, this looks like it might be under two feet?, maybe 18mm powered? (I would be afraid of a 24mm D tearing off some of those aft fins, but maybe you have a solid approach)

We need lots of pictures along the way

Good eye!

It's 28.8" long with a 18mm motor mount.

The design is based off of Shrox's Capricorn Ad. That's why I can't kit this as it would be morally wrong in my eyes. I'm just using this as a test to see if you folks would be interested in Dodecahedron's and I wanted to build a more unique looking Capricorn. :D

I started cutting and gluing last night. I'll get some pics up tomorrow.

Understood on all counts. FWIW, I like the Shrox artwork. I like your rendering even better. Of course its that nautical decal eater that really takes the cake but my wife says I've eaten too much cake.

Oh, sorry, I've been working on instructions for a few upcoming kits and forgot about this.

I'll get some pics and patterns together and post over the weekend.

Hey John,

Well, the USS Northridge has been evolving into something a bit different than the original rocksim design.

I omitted the Dodecahedron's for now, they may get added back in later....

The nose cone on the top sail is a Delta II cone. BT-70 tube on the bottom sail. :eyepop:

Notice that I have reinforced the fin joints with dowel rods. :dark:

Picture time!

That looks pretty cool Ray! Those 2 pods look like they be itching to have 24mm motors stuck in them to go along with the central 18mm :D THAT would be way cool going up!

Yeah, she is about 2 calibers over stable right now so a 3 cluster could be doable.

Would need more dowel rod to hold it together.

Ooh! Pegasus! Any chance of kitting that one for InFlight? Put me on the early list if so.

It looks to be well worth the wait.

And, supposing it is sufficiently different from the Shrox design, I'll join my sentiments to Fishhead's.

nice that's come along very well, but the horizontal fins look like they are missing something. You need more tubes and pods! :eyepop:

Thanks

Yeah, there is still some emptiness that needs to be filled in with some tubes and wood. :D
