He *is* a very neat guy :) what a lot of folks don't know is that he is missing a finger (i forget which). the trick of the camera men and director of Star Trek (episodes *and* movies) is to never show that hand clearly....

They did a good job. I have never heard of an incident where his missing digit was ever noticed on film

He points out in his book that in the trouble with tribbles he is carrying an armful of them at one point and his finger is 'missing' in the shot although he says undoubtedly fan conjecture is that one tribble had simply swallowed it temporarily as he was carrying them... chuckle..

Star trek communicator magazine had an interview once with one of the redshirts who was on repeatedly(and died repeatedly hehe) who also did stand in hand shots,, like when scotty activates the sliders on the transporter,, he did scotty's hand.

Hey guys-
The Duece's main hull is painted. Little parts still working. I just ordered the decal paper from ASP, so I hope to get them done soon...

Here's a pic of the assembled deflector dish primed. It still needs to be cleaned and painted, but I think it's gonna work.

The base of the dish is made of the center punch out of an estes paper centering ring and a couple slices of bt.

I got the warp nacele (aft) ends painted today too. Tomarrow I'll hopefully assemble everything but the front of the Nacele, that must wait until after final finishing (I don't want various spray goos getting on them).

During either the 3rd or 4th season I got a letter informing me that my print was in an upcoming episode (can't recall which one at the moment). Turns out there is a scene in Capt Picard's bedroom as as the camera pans around the room, you can see my print, framed, hanging on the wall.

I was shocked!

Not to take anything at all away from Justin, whose mods to the Dueces Wild are really great, but...

Jim, now THAT is cool! I'd love to know which episode it is, if anyone can find out. (And I think it was his quarters, not his "bedroom." He IS a ship's captain, after all.) ;)

Coming along nicely...you have a good entry for a forthcoming contest :)

I'm going to have to dig that up again. I used to have a still from that scene, but you couldn't really make it out (it was a line drawing), but you could while watching the film

The decals are done on the 'puter. I'm gonna try to get them on tonight. There are a couple of details I still need to work out.

My girlfriend has picked up my order from ASP (really fast processing and shipping!), so I should have everything I need..

I'll post later tonight.

The paper worked fine. It seems to be the same paper Testors sells (same markings on back) in tiny pieces at Walmart with bonder spray (I tested that stuff, it worked).

I have sprayed HEAVY coats of rust-o-leum crystal clear on it after the testors bonder, and it didn't crinkle. They ( asp, and papillio.com) advertise the stuff works with krylon crystal clear too.

I havn't tested it without the bonder spray first (hobby lobby has it) , but I'll bet it would work. I'll let you know.

Here's a pic of the sheet.

Those decals look great!! This is going to be one nice looking bird!!

Until the Rocket Gods claim it... remember "Who Mourns For Adonis?" - I can see a giant hand grabbing the rocket as it heads skyward....

I just watched that episode again the other day. My girlfriend bought me the new DVD releases of TOS season one and two. I was watching them last night while applying decals:)

I think Yeoman Rand was in one of the Star Trek movies...she hasn't aged as well as most of us.

Now Seven of nine...I'm THERE!!

She was in Star Trek I, III, IV, and VI.

If you look at this (abridged) timeline from https://www.ridgecrest.ca.us/~curtdan/Excelsior/SuluPages.cgi?FILE=Rand
, Janice Rand was about 60 years old in Star Trek VI. And Grace Lee Whitney, the actress who played her, was 61 when the movie was made. Even in 1966, when she first appeared in Star Trek on TV, she was 36, which is pretty darned hard to believe. I would have guessed she was in her early 20's at that time.

Given that she's 74 now, I think she's aged pretty well.

Anyway... 7 of 9, yeah! How long do Borg drones live, anyway?

It's almost done. This bird has been a monster to work on. Here's a pic of it from the side...

Very very nice,, now what happens if you lose it? No emotional breakdowns please,, there's children present! ;)

If I worried about losing it (okay I am a little) I would be making styrene models!

I prefer this style of modeling. I figure anyone can make a spaceship that resides on the shelf....

I hope it makes it a couple flights.............I'll cry..

It looks very nice, and an interesting subject to build.

I finnally got this bird done. I think I started in November....

These are some of the pics I sent in for the Duece bash contest. (the same one's from Jims contest page) I wanted to post them here with the rest of this aging thread..

Here's a front view with the removeable nose dome off.

Here's a side view. I think the Naceles came out pretty good. Those Michaels acrylic jewels are great. Completely sandable, paintable, glueable.

that last photo sucks. I'll try to replace it later.

Here's a view of the shuttle craft bay.

This is a bottom view. The true nerds here will recoginze the the bottom graphics. The origional studio model(60's Enterprise) had (and has still?) these marks that were never seen on the show.

I worked forever on this thing.......

This is a close up of the bridge. The disca are all origional Duece NC parts.
