The US government has studied the impact problem for many years, and have a system in place to detect Near Earth Objects, developed a policy to determine what the effects of the impact will be and what the response will be, and what it takes to divert an NEO.

The Russian are far behind.

It is not IF but WHEN it will happen..Somewhere there is a big rock with Earth's address on it's trajectory..
