URRG held its first launch since LDRS34 this past weekend at the field in Potter. The weather was decent - both days started out grey (it was raining Rochester Saturday morning) but cleared up. Also, both days started reasonably calm, but winds picked up later in the day. Apparently, the wind doesn't blow based on the forecast. There was, I think, a decent turn out both days, but the local NAR branch (MARS) was also having a launch weekend, so it probably split attendance.

I managed 14 flights over the course of the weekend, but burned 23 motors doing it (if my math is right), since 5 of my flights were clustered rockets. However, I managed to get 100% of the motors to light, so it all worked pretty well for me. Several flights were first flights for the rocket in question, and all rockets were recovered either on the tilled field up close or in the carrots nearby. I didn't have to chase anything into the corn. Here is what I flew:

  1. PS2 Argent - F50-6T. Good flight, but half the shroud lines pulled out of the chute at deployment. Still recovered intact
  2. Prometheus - E30-7T. Good flight, no issues.
  3. Upscale Astron Ranger - 3x C11-5. All three lit, good flight
  4. Der Mean Machine Max - F23-7FJ. Another good flight for a reliable rocket
  5. 4" upscale Der V-3 - G80-7T. Also a good flight
  6. Upscale NASA Pegasus - C11-3. Weird corkscrew halfway up (never did that before), safe recovery
  7. Black Brant III clone - B6-4. First flight, off the pad like a shot
  8. PS2 Nike Smoke - F26-6FJ. First flight, landed safe in the carrots
  9. Scorpius clone - B6-4. First flight, clean flight
  10. Binary Star - 2x D12-7. Good flight, safe recovery, though one engine kicked out at ejection. Port must have be blocked.
  11. Astron Cobra clone - 3x B6-4. Good flight
  12. Upscale Advanced Target Drone - D12-7, 2x D11-P. Nice launch, landed close to the LCO table, but came down hard on ventral fin and cracked it. Nose cone took a good whack too.
  13. Advanced Target Drone clone - B6-4. Up-part was good, landed nearby in the sod, but also cracked the ventral fin, as well as one wing.
  14. Der Green Max - 3x A8-3. Fast off the pad, nice flight without damage

I have yet to pull the pictures from the camera, so I'll add those later today. If anyone else has pictures of their flights from the weekend, feel free to add.

Nice flights, it was a fun day. I launched my Optima 38 on a loki G80W, then my Optima 29 on a G76G, G79W, and a G76G. Smuggler's Revenge had it's first flight on an EX load by Dan Patell in one of his case, about a 210 - H130 plain jane. All are scratch builds out of 2.6" bluetube.

I flew both sizes, but only photographed the larger one. Both landed close by, but hard enough to take some fin damage.

And lastly, Der Green Max, since I was feeling pretty confident about clustering by that point:
