Like I said, I didn't design it. But you're right, it is an elegant design.

Yeah I did see you'd made that point and I totally agree. It's thanks to you and the forum for sharing it and explaining it more. Which customs would hurry with my parts!

Small update from this post

https://www.rocketryforum.com/showt...ner-54-38-mm-MMT-UK-BUILD&p=675819#post675819

Parts have arrived!!!

I've had a play with it. Even been able to sym a flight to 4000 ft. I need to get some bulbs to test the main and drouge. Best thing, no customs on this baby. It was even marked up for $115 so should of had it.

My rocket parts them self are in the UK. Have been here a week but HMS Customs are sat on them currently. I daily check the tracking hoping!

Need to order some glues ready, CA, epoxy (mix of setting times), JB weld.

I feel for ya, man. Paying customs fees must be rough.

It sucks but it's a risk. I've had 2 parcels so far for this project totaling $185 USD and no charges. You win some, you lose some. What sucks is an order I've done with Estes is only $10 to ship states side. Couldn't do that here

Plus not my tracking has been updated, I might have a delivery of the big stuff tomorrow!! Dreading the charges!

Touch down. My amazing girl friend went and got it from the delivery company. She even paid the customs for me, result!

Strong box from Dave, nothing looks bad

Booooooo i got spanked

Umm goodies

Hello Blue Tube 2.0

Small issue, 65mm ID hole not 55mm. Dave was rushing with lots of ordered and working something like 19 hours. Mistakes happens. I've contacted him, it'll be fixed

Quick mock up

So the NC is not 12'' but 16''.
1 blue tube 20'' section is darker and really tight to fit on the coupler, anyone any ideas why? Same with the NC.

I've also looked here and giving it ago at making a tracker https://www.rocketryforum.com/showt...Track-Open-Source-GPS-Tracker-for-Smartphones

PCB's i've ordered from https://oshpark.com/ £8 to the UK shipped for 3. Fact i've had the confermation they are being made already.

GPS is on order from eBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170979281074?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2648

Plan to mod and fit this in the NC. Anyone have any ideas?

This is gonna make one mean rocket!

That's the plan

This looks cool!!

It's only just began!

Dave has new rings on there way to me. First-Class Package International Service so hoping they come quick! Been thinking of making some silly jig to make it fun with the kids when gluing the CR's.

So I've made contact with the guys at https://www.dipthis.co.uk/ They are calling me tomorrow about NC being dipped. Stay tuned!!

GPS still on there way.....

Plus note me Zigbee modules have arrived for the GPS tracker https://uk.farnell.com/jsp/search/productdetail.jsp?sku=1706338 https://www.rocketryforum.com/showt...Track-Open-Source-GPS-Tracker-for-Smartphones

Pete...I will be after some advice & guidance on your tracking when the time comes.

So I been looking for how to mod the nose cone for the GPS transmitter/eBay. I came across this video from John Coker https://jcrocket.com/plastic-nose-mods.shtml

As it happens the incorrect CR's Dave sent me might be of some use! I've 1 bulkhead for the coupler and 1 centering ring for 3.9'' to 65 mm ID. John's uses 54 mm so i'm only 10 mm off. I could maybe fill it with epoxy, have to wait and see. Might see if I have a tube at work that might fit. It'll only need to 1'' long.

Parts needed

  • Epoxy
  • 3x T-nuts M6
  • 3x Stainless Nuts M6 Capped Allen head
  • Ubolt
  • 65 mm OD tube 1'' ish long
  • Ply/mdf/foamx sled

Parts I got

The 3.9''' to 65mm ring and bulkhead. I've drawn inside so I can see how room there is for the T -nuts

So I need to fill out that shoulder so I get a clean cut. I don't have a spare coupler like John has. Masking tape will do, lots of it!

As you can see this keep it level when I come to cut it.

The cut line you can maybe see it but it's got a mold line on the curve. I will cut this tomorrow on the chop or table saw at work. This was get a nice clean cut

Something that I do to cut the bottom off of a nose cone is put a body tube on it, to keep the cone level. Run it through a chop saw. Done.

Updates.....

Nose cone done. Found a postal tube at work, cut section off then split the length. This was due to it being larger ID. I made the shoulder of the NC larger with masking tape, postal tube over this then small bit of tape. In the shop saw and done. I had to get someone at work to do it for me as rules have changed on who is allowed too use it. Looks pretty smart. No longer going to use the 3.9''' to 65mm ring. I will get a proper 54mm ring.

The old centering rings are being put to good use. I need a way to hold the 2x 20'' section either side of the AV bay. So I've glued all 3 rings together with PVA/Woodglue. Will then cut them into 8 sections total, drill a hole in them then fit a threaded insert. These will then be epoxy'd in the inside of the AV bay, an M6 stainless steel caped bolt will hold the sections on. 4 per side.

Dave's new rings have arrived, rapid delivery! Thanks Dave... oh and they fit!

Found some MDF cutoff's at work that were about to see the bin. Yonik!!! 25mm one way, 15mm the other. Thinking jig/spacer

Had some deliveries, GPS, Aerials, Batteries, 6mm Stainless Steel Delta Links, Quick Links, U bolts, CA's, JB Weld, Thread lock, Battery tester, JST female leads

Had to check them delta links out with Onebadhawks shock chord.....WOW!!!

My nickname might confuse some people. I'm also a pyrotechnic (firworks lead tech). I do this out of my day job. I hand fire and electric fire. So whilst at a show recently i grabs some e-matches. Perfect for deployment. Smallest we use is 0.3m so cut them down. I also found this handy air tight plastic box at local super market. Keeps them safe, tidy and in my box. 75 matches are in that box. Plenty of flights.

Need to drill new holes for the U bolts. I stacked all the bulk heads so I drill just twice and done. Missing are the AV bays. I will do them after using the above a jig. Reason being the holes for the sled I want to get them in the right location.

My Nosecone is getting packed then sent off to Dipthis. They guys there are looking forward to doing it as am I. The rest of the NC mod will be done after. Reason being the item being dipped in water with a ply centering ring not a good idea.

Have been doing some dry setup now I have the CR's. I need to give the fin slots a quick file as cut with rounded tip.

Plan to fit 1 CR 1'' from the end, tempory mount the rear, mark on MMT end of fin slot, fit CR just past the mark.

Slots have been filed open at the top, fins fit.

Had to quickly throw in the MMT, 2 CR's, Tail cone retianer and masking tape holding the fins in sorry for poor photo. Battery low
