The new year is almost upon us and it's time to start planning out our goals for 2023. Here are mine:

1. Certify level 2. Work and the need for two dental implants forced me to skip this one for 2022.
2. Become proficient with dual deployment.
3. Attend Air Fest.
4. Attend turkey and GRITS 2023.
5. Start planning my Level 3 project.

-Build and fly a HP 2 stage rocket (carryover from last year) :(
-Get comfortable with altitudes 6K-10K
-Do a full alphabet walk of motors throughout the flying year

#1) Become proficient in reloadable motors in preparation for L1 (My RMS 29/40-120 arrived yesterday in the mail -- my first case, so excited!)
#2) Build something worthy of larger MPR motors (technically in progress - my "American Daddy" (see build thread) is mostly there, and I just ordered the 5-foot BMS school rocket)
#3) Start learning what needs to be done for L1 (not just the rocket, there's a written test, gotta look up what I need to know)
#4) Join Tripoli (already in NAR), and join METRA, so I can fly there this year
#5) Basically, anything and everything that needs to be done so I am confident I can obtain L1 for 2024

1. Certify L2
2. build (2) Fat Boy clones
3. restore Maxi Aalpha rocket
4. Start on Sea Killer rocket
5. build Public Enemy 4" Fat Boy rocket clone
6. launch Lil' Goblin
6. launch Blobbo
7. launch Indigo
8. launch 40 year old Corporal
9. launch 40 year old restored Delta II
10. launch Majestic

1. Gain more experience with dual deploy and GPS tracking.
2. Successful composite (HPR) staging.
3. Successful composite (HPR) cluster.
4. Successful 10k'+ altitude flight and recovery.
5. Attend LDRS (last one I was at was LDRS-4)

  1. Help my kids design & build their own mid-power rockets.
  2. Fly my own electronics.
  3. Fly at least 2 of my own new rocket designs.
  4. Build an L3-capable rocket.

1. Deplete a good amount of my motor inventory. (aka, fly more, build less)
2. SR71 Build
3. Saturn 1b Build
4. Super Orbital Transport Build
5. Fly some I motors.

  • Be better with DD
  • Be better with tracking
  • Be comfortable with electronics (with browser based stuff)
  • Be comfortable with 'outta sight' flights
  • Be comfortable with J, K, and L motors
  • 2 miles up (or 3km..)
  • Attend URRF
  • Reduce the fleet & build pile (Fly the crap outta them!)

Finish and fly my L2 attempt - I'm in no rush, this project started 2 years ago.
Print parts and make a small CNC router.
Make tiny sugar grains for my hobbyline cases.

Extended goals:
Get a lathe, learn how to use it.
Make nozzles and snap ring cases.
Make a small fleet of rockets where the major rocket parts and motor components are made by myself.

1. Attend more club launches...people are fantastic there and rockets are cool. A Happy place. :)
2. Launch bigger and better to have more fun and in preparation for...
3. Start plans for L3 in earnest.
4. Buy more stuff from our onsite vendors. They support us, we should support them. Online and bf sales are good, but a person showing up and offering help and products is better than the savings imo.
5. Spend more time on TRF. *Already Done!
6. Try to not get in trouble with the wife for buying too many rockets! (wish me luck!) :p

  • Break a mile
  • Invent a nonpyro chute deployment
  • Cert L1
  • High Power staging
  • Resist the urge to binge purchase more fancy parachutes (but they're so pretty)

Secondary specific goals:
  1. K+ motor launch (our waiver is 4.5k')
  2. Carbon Fiber rocket build (MD?)
  3. Mach
  4. 7.5" rocket build(s)
  5. Continue work on odd rocs & new systems
  6. Bring my Cato'd G-Force back to life (roasted lower section). :(

  • Successfully fly our 12" Wildman Punisher on all seven motors this time
  • Fly my 7.5" Honest John on a five-motor cluster
  • Burn all the L and M motors I've got sitting that didn't get to fly this year
    Break 50,000 feet
  • Related to rocketry, break 50,000 subscribers on YouTube!

- Start, complete and fly the Horizon Models Redstone SPARTA WRESAT PMC that stares at me from its box every morning.
- Upscale the Fliskits Nanite.
- Fly more.
