probably breaking taboo of post about a post, but figured those perusing this section interested in the archaic non-electronic form of staging might be interested.

Pretty simple staging design. Minimum Diameter, engine of sustainer nests in forward end of booster. One standard notebook paper size paper punch hole on each side of booster just aft of the nozzle of sustainer engine. Allows hot gases to illuminate the nozzle/powder of the booster as they escape out the holes. The holes also vent the pressure so the sustainer doesn’t pop off prematurely.

I was a bit conservative. I used A8-3 in both sustainers, has a bigger nozzle so more reliable staging, also keeps altitude down (winds 7 gusting to 10.). If I get a calm wind day I might go with B6-4.

The Double ring booster recovered nicely. The two streamers on the Kestral Sustainer werE NOT sufficient to keep it nose up, I may go with bigger pod or pods next time and try a chute. I am a little concerned that sustainer engine jet may singe a chute.

Taboo? Don't waste your time caring about forum etiquette, there's always gonna be someone whining no matter what you do. Good info and thanks for sharing;)
