The loss of Tru-Core has been devastating for research rocketry.
Really? How so?
Missed maybe, but devastating?

Well I will have to agree with Chuck, it did cost us a lot more money to start doing them ourselves. First of all you make lots of mistakes.... Depending who does them for you and how many you order, the material you choose etc... building a test stand and my friend ended up buying a lathe to make them. The good news is now I have lots of casings from my friend for the same kind of price that Ed use to sell them. He can do custom casings we even did some 1 grain in order to test new propellant. Also I hove them locally, no need to order from the US or China anymore with custom fees and expensive postage.
I would like to thanks everyone on this for who gave advises on the material to choose.
Did anyone take over the casting tube mandrels/bases he made?
I do not have any info on true core...
The is another option..

I have nothing to do with the above ...

I bought from him more recently than that. Late 2019. It was slow, but I got my parts. He apologized, said he had a larger order in the cue ahead of mine. The website is still there. I am not sure. I have not heard anyone report have bought and received them and it is dated 2013.
If you follow the link that I posted above, it will take you to the TRU-CORE webpage. I have been buying from him for at least five years, and have an incoming order scheduled to be delivered Wednesday. He is a bit slow, but good products. They are not printed.
Thanks Ted! I've been a little slow but am transitioning to partial retirement. My goal is to make a supply of the common sizes in the new year. That way if you want a 54-5/8 I'll be able to ship the next day. I'm working on new molds now - because they aren't 3d printed, but cast plastic

I am not a machinist either but my friend is and he is thinking about reselling some. I am buying from him and we live in the same country which means low shipping cost for large casing if any. It is possible to get them made in China for a reasonable price but you have to order a large quantity so not sure it worse's it for the experimental market where people are usually looking for custom made stuff. It would be nice to have a similar supplier......at his price point.
None of it was fancy or anodized, but you could use the same case over dozens of times then it's not a major crime against your wallet to toss it and get another one.....
Mike Fisher is Binder Design/Fisher Research Hardware and in my opinion the gold standard for all of your research hardware needs:

How is his design different?Good quality with a slight different design. He is the one I will order from with my next case need,

Okay, thanks! The thrust ring was built-in. Both are great motors, but the Tru-Core has the built in thrust ring,
