-- I was really tempted to put this in the High Power section. ;) --

After four scrubs, they finally got this bird off the ground!

Here's some shots from my house (I'm about 60 miles due west of the Cape).

You can read more about the launch difficulties in this <a href="https://www.floridatoday.com/blogs/082704atlasnro/">Florida Today Space blog</a>

And here's more about the <a href="https://www.space.com/missionlaunches/atlas2as_launch_040831.html">flight / rocket</a> from Space.com

Did anyone else in Central Florida get some pix? Lance???

I think this is my favorite shot of the bunch. You can really see the motor
working.

Funny, this is how most of my launch photos come out. It's on the pad, then
it's gone in a cloud of smoke! :)

Ozymandias?? How 'bout something from up at Embry-Riddle?

from the previously mentioned blog-

Atlas Mission A Success
A classified National Reconnaissance Office spacecraft is circling Earth tonight after a successful launch aboard a Lockheed Martin Atlas 2AS rocket. Launched at 7:17 p.m. from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, the top-secret payload separated from the rocket 73 minutes after liftoff, or about 8:30 p.m.

Times are EDT.

Always nice to see our tax dollars at work.

thats pretty cool!can you hear it pretty well?

Nope. Can't hear the Atlas or Delta's from my place, but when the
conditions are right, I have heard a few Shuttle launches.

Would've loved to live here in the 60's & 70's for the Saturn's!!

Brian, NICE SHOTS! Those are way cool. If only our HPR birds could be seen that far away. Thanks for posting those...really!

oh man, saturn launches were incredible... we lived just south of Daytona (Edgewater) and it got to the point where we would pull things off the shelves just before a launch cuz they would rattle off. My mom lost a nice hummel collection that way...

your so lucky man. I want to see some big rockets go off ;)
