Really sad.
I was watching him in the Travelling Wilburys a few days ago.
Fantastic memories.
SO.
He made some nice music and had a drug problem and probably other issues. I'm sure the way he took care of himself had a lot to do with his untimely death. RIP
And yet Keith Richards is like the Energizer Bunny....
Yes, but when he gets blood in his heroin stream he is done for.
Pretty sad about this. Although I haven't listened to Tom Petty much in the last few years, hearing his songs again really brings back memories and reminds me of how great his songs were.
Why is it that as soon as a famous musician passes my opinion of him genuinely skyrockets...
It seems I just don't realize how great a musician or poet they were until they're gone...
Again and again...
I just don't understand this ...
Teddy
Teddy, I think that sometimes it is hard to grasp greatness as it is happening. It does happen sometimes though. Many times though it takes time and perspective to evaluate someone or thing against history.
My example of this was as a youngster listening to Randy Rhoads playing with Ozzy. I, and most who really listened, pretty much understood how great he was. He dies and many others suddenly get it.
Then sometimes everyone gets it when it is happening. I would use Michael Jordan at his peak. The man was clearly operating on a level or two higher than everyone else.

Strangely I have had "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" popping into my head most of this week. It isn't even my favourite song of his.
