Some sort of paint booth is handy. I have a better-than-nothing "booth" made from a 18×18×36 inch cardboard box. Tape the end flaps securely. Cut out most of one side, leaving an inch or two all around (framing the opening) to maintain structural integrity. Through the opening, tape or glue down the inside flaps. I hang things from the top and paint spray. A majority of the overspray stays on the inside walls, and some - more than I"d like - wafts back out. It should be vented, but as I say, it's better than nothing.
Since this is a shopping list, if you can afford to buy something better and you're sure you'll stay in the hobby (i.e. do lots of building) then consider going for it.
