I just got back from the CMASS launch. Jim said something to me that I think you may find interesting.... :D

He said something along the lines of:

"we may start producing 38MM versions of the Dueces Wild in kit form, for special orders, with a wait of about 6 weeks for about $150-$200."

He said it was OK if I started the rumor machine up. :D

I think its a great idea! Go Jim! :D

(Oh, and thats how long it takes me to get home, Jim. I left at 4:30 on the dot, and its now...6:38. I wasted no time in posting this, as you can tell :D)

I think $200 for a fliskit is a bit too much ( ;) ) however if there was a plan pak for making a 38mm Deuce I would buy that. Bring it on :D :D

Making a set of plans with a full scale copy of rings, fins etc would be awesome. That would make it so easy and fun!!! Then it could include tips, ideas and suggested materials as well as the instructions.

$200 is a little steep. Would probably do better with just the plans.

$200 isnt that steep, $150 is completly reasonable. I am pretty sre this is a 4"kit and there are alot of special parts. I am not sure I would pay 200, maybe 150 though.

if it is around $100 i'd almost definitely get one, anthing more is kind of steep. there's a lot of really cool 38mm kits out there for under a c note. and then there's buying 2 38mm loads per flight ~$40

i'd still love to see a 29mm duece kit.

Doug's? Yea, I think he did. Not sure though.

$150-$200 isnt too bad if you think about it... He would have to have a LOT of special parts made....

A 29MM version would be easier to market if you ask me. We younguns could build em and fly em on our own (well, not to say I wouldent buy one, but my dad would have to build it with me), and the motors are cheaper.

The only trouble with the Dueces design is you cant have the motors and longer than the motor tubes, because they will collide at the top. That limits the amount of power you can put in it. I doubt you could make a J570 or even a J350 in it...

Hey, Carl, how big a motor can you fit in that rocket o' yourn? What diameter is it? 5.5"?

Carl's is 4".

I think that the 24mm DW would be the best seller. I don't think that you would get the same reaction from the regular DW in the market, but the HPR guys would love it.

This should be in the Vendor's forum.

A good part of the expense would be the custom cone. I assume nobody other than RoachWerks (sandman) makes a scale 4" deuce cone.

sheesh!

The $150/$200 price was a royal SWAG and has no basis in reality. I have no idea what a beast would cost.

Also have no idea of what it would consist of as we haven't looked at it that closely.

I have several inquiries that I have to make befor we can even make a decision to offer such a beast. If we were, it wouldn't be till late 05, early 06 (just too busy) but if we were to ever offer an HPR bird, this is the one I would want to do

Also I don't want to step on anybody's toes. Befor I even set my sights on such a project I will need some conversation with at least two people, and perhaps more. If this pans out I will be seeking input from this forum too.

more later :)

I'd buy one. I will even help with the development if I can :). This is in a realm of rocket science that I have experience with :).

Ok, this is the perfect moment to interject with some liftoff shots of upscale Deuces while everyone ponders the upscale kit possibilities.

Dual 24mm Deuce Liftoff/Drag Race. (Jason's on the left, mine - now at the bottom of a lake - on the right.)

...and here's my 29mm Deuce liftoff on a pair of F20s.

Alright, now back to our regular Deuce chat. (Man do I feel sorry for the guy that types "Deuce" in the SEARCH box!)

My 54 mm versions are 5.5". The largest motor that will fit is 15" long - K185 size. I had to reduce the cant angle from 15 to 11 deg for motors this size.

Typing "FlisKits," you get 39 pages (25 per page) for a total of 966 threads. Lets see... 966/11,471 threads = 0.084. FlisKits is only 91% away from total domination of the Rockery Forum ;):D

Jim may ONLY have 9% of the Rocketry Forum now, but wait another year and I'll bet he'll be up to around 12-15%. I mean think about it, he comes out with what, 6-8 new rockets each year!!!

yea, well I hope we can keep up that pace... It's a killer trying to get that many kits ready for production while trying to come up with new accessories (EMK's) at the same time while going out to launches, updating web pages, the TdD, DOM, etc, etc... LOL

gotta git me a laptop with wireless so that I can design and update in the field now...

The Rockery Forum? As in, "We must all be off our Rockery to spend so much time looking up Fliskits in here"?

Bush and Kerry!? Those 30 odd threads must all be locked... ;)

It was remarked at a recent CMASS launch that pretty soon there would be very very very few Estes kits on the pads at CMASS, and all Fliskits kits!

I for one think it could happen

If you ask me, a 29MM Deuce would be best. We younguns could fly it on MPR motors, and you guys could fly it on HPR loads (do they make any short enough? They must...)

Plus the nose cone would be cheaper. $75-$100 for a 29MM Deuce wouldent kill me.:)

Well, I guess they arnt. Just in passing, and sometimes just someone with the same name.

Interesting the way it highlights the keywords, though :D I never knew you could do that... What fun! :D

what? no estes??? why would you want such a thing..some of their kits are great! just like flis-kits, i'd rank both equally, giving flis-kits the edge in customer support (afterall, i am in MA) just because estes are mass produced doesnt mean they are garbage. and thats another reason why i like flis kits too, because i know they are a smaller company and spend more time pushing their product, rather than estes, who can afford all the premium packaging(not that flis-kits arent premiumly packaged) and marketing that WAL-MART brings.

I meant agree that it might happen, not agree that its the best thing in the world. I have no objection to Estes, but I DEFNETLY like Fliskits better. The balsa nosecones and better centering rings (I have no patience for the paper ones in the Estes kits), and all of that. All of my LPR fleet is scratch or Fliskits. The Estes kits just dont apeal to me for some reason. Go figure.
